The Senior Director, Digital Design will be responsible for the look, feel and productivity of our digital commerce and marketing sites starting with mobile, as well as tablet and desktop. The role will create and
maintain a world-class customer experience with a focus on digital innovation — this includes the integration of storytelling and content that celebrates and mines our brand DNA, video/motion and personalization, all with a keen understanding of the user experience.
The ideal candidate must be a conceptual thinker and strategic problem-solver, be positive, highly motivated, collaborative, and able to mentor and manage the design team.
Responsibilities:
Digital Innovation: Mobile First
• Generate and develop ideas that bring the brand to life in the digital space
• Lead the conception, design and execution of digital creative, both domestic and international,
including: site refreshes (homepages, landing pages, shops, interactive features, microsites,
special launches, etc.), site enhancements and tests (upgrades, navigation changes, updates to
site architecture, etc.), email marketing, digital banners and ads, as well as partner sites and programs in the digital space.
• Consider, propose and implement new digital functionalities, platforms and experiences to continually position Tory Burch as a leader in digital innovation
Creative Excellence
• Continually push the creative to drive sales, build brand awareness, create buzz, grow following
and acquire customers
• Clearly define and differentiate the visual identities of our brands (toryburch.com, torysport.com, toryburchfoundation.org)
• Establish consistency across all customer touchpoints, with an omni-channel view on how customers interact with the brand
• Oversee the visual creative direction for our philanthropic website and its digital presence; maintain and oversee the relaunch of our internal corporate website
• Keep self and team up to date with emerging trends in popular culture and technology: fashion, design, film, art, media, etc.
Team Leadership & Management
• Manage the digital creative design team, providing leadership, inspiration, guidance, support and direction. Encourage excellence and team spirit.
• Supervise and manage daily workflow of design team
• Provide clear and objective critiques of creative work; communicate and distill conceptual ideas and business strategies to team
• Provide quality control on all creative work
• Understand technology and have the ability to make recommendations and plans based on implications for the creative team (i.e. pros and cons of responsive design versus separate sites for devices).
• Define process and workflow, emphasize planning versus reactive ways of working, anticipate talent and project needs in advance
• Develop and articulate clear strategies and guidelines for graphic design
• Ensure that timelines budgets are accurate and executed
Collaboration & Partnership
• Partner with VP of Photography and identify up-front image needs through strong, well planned concepts
• Enable unconventional relationships with Development/IT/Ecomm
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners on a daily, weekly and strategic basis
• Partner with editorial/social team to integrate content into commerce and leverage and maximize shared assets
• Work closely with partners to concept and plan out seasonal creative calendar, promotional
calendar and additional secondary stories prior to seasonal shoots, including introduction of new
functionalities with the development team
• Collaborate with Digital Operations to create styling stories and ensure best product detail pages to support key initiatives
Qualifications:
• Exceptional creative talent
• Team leader, with ability to build a creative culture
• Proven depth of experience in design/digital represented by a portfolio of work
• Strong command of typography, layout, form and color
• Advanced level of experience with current design programs/software (Adobe Suite — Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
• Firm understanding of web standards, cross-browser compatibility, and image optimization techniques
• Experience with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Cinema 4D, motion graphics and a working knowledge of HTML and CSS web design are a plus
