Our North Face and Jansport offices are currently located in Alameda, CA; Smartwool is located in Steamboat, CO; Eagle Creek is located in Carlsbad, CA and Altra Running is located in Logan, UT. All positions at these brands will ultimately be located in Denver, CO. Sr. Director, Technical Design and Development:
Become the Newest Member of the VF Family
The primary responsibility of the Sr. Director of Technical Design and Development is to build comprehensive strategies around technical design and integrated product development for all categories. Responsible for collaborating with factory partners, suppliers and licensees and determining how these functions work best with brand needs. Drives training programs that utilize both internal and factory talent to better align and accelerate processes and working relationships. Oversees and manages department budget and foresees financial planning 3 years out. Works with Global Partners cross-functionally. Demonstrates a passion for the brand, inspires individual contributors and relies on leadership skills and depth of industry knowledge to plan and accomplish goals and elevate strategies around technical design and development.
How You Will Make a Difference:
• Establish comprehensive technical design disciplines, proprietary patternmaking, and integrated product development processes.
• Implement training programs to utilize both internal and factory partner talent to accelerate development approvals during prototyping phase
Partner with internal and external resources on 3D prototyping and product creation
• Responsible for departmental talent strategy including recruiting, hiring, and retaining high-performers.
• Collaborate with factory partners, suppliers, and licensees to identify strengths and gaps in their development to production process.
• Executive role critical to connecting product/design, development, materials, quality and the global supply chain.
Responsible for rebranding the product development team at corporate headquarters and global offices
Redefined standards and processes to establish consistent fit, spec, sizing, construction and quality standards for all apparel categories
• Financially responsible for departmental budgets including 3 year planning for SG&A, travel, training, technology, promotions and succession planning.
• Establish, reviewed and maintained garment specifications, size grading, pattern blocks, construction, quality, and communication standards. Communicated standards to global partners.
Global travel for fit development, production visits, and vendor onboarding
Skills for Success:
Years of Related Professional Experience: 10+ years
Educational/ Position Requirements:
• Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a team and must have a track record in executing tasks/projects.
• Capable of driving short term, long term, and complex projects.
• Collaborative partner with team oriented approach.
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal
• Understand how to motivate and develop diverse personalities/ talent.
• Embrace change and react with speed and agility.
• Flexible and creative problem solver.
• Personal professionalism and accountability.
• Have extensive experience managing and estimating personal time outlays for each project.
• Overall understanding of the outdoor market, development processes and the competition landscape and a participatory knowledge of the represented sports is helpful.
• Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environments.
Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:
• Travel by air and overnight, as required 20% of time.
