In 2018, the three internal design groups across the 4 divisions were reorganized into a single agency-model design organization. This design organization is named “Huemen”. Huemen will continue to deliver and lead the world-class design across all of HARMAN in the disciplines of Industrial Design (ID), User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX), as well Marketing Services and Future Experiences in Auto and Home.
Position Summary
Huemen is seeking a User Experience Director with 15+ years of relevant experience to be an integral part of Huemen Design organization. The candidate will manage interdisciplinary teams to deliver world class design solutions and will be responsible for creative leadership, quality and Mountain View studio (including satellite sites) P&L . She/ he will be leading a team that is responsible for designing, developing & productizing holistic experiences grounded in User Centric Design Process. We are looking for a leader who is responsible for integrating solutions from Product Design team and Digital Solution team to create memorable consumer experiences. The ideal candidate will lead the UI/ UX team to achieve their goals in creating design solutions and support to accelerate the business growth with design-led conversations. This candidate will manage the Mountain View Studio and other satellite sites with creative direction, operation and utilization support and lead the UX team to deliver high-quality design products & solutions.
She/he will partner with UX Directors of other studios, Sales, Project Teams and other business units to incorporate and promote the User Centric Design approach and Huemen vision within and outside the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage team of UX and UI designers, UX researchers and UI development professionals.
Job Responsibilities
• Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective thought leader, grounded in User Centric design process
• Creative leadership, quality and P&L owner for Mountain View Studio
• Responsible for growing the UX team and their skillsets in Mountain View studio, reporting to Mountain View site leader
• Lead Senior Designers to develop the experience vision for the Huemen Design group
• Establish UCD/UX governance and processes across products and solutions
• Evangelize our design practice to internal and external stakeholders from designers to executive leadership
• Manage a team and collaborate with business owners and technology peers.
• Effectively communicate, motivate, coach and develop design excellence.
• Direct all phases of the design process along with appropriate feedback
• Collaborate with interaction and visual designers to resolve usability and desirability concerns
• Drives user-centric, iterative and collaborative design process revolving around user research, rapid prototyping, deployment & continuous improvement
• Serve as a consultant regarding human behavior and understanding throughout the product development lifecycle (ideation>design>build>test>deploy) for multiple projects and programs
• Lead UX design workshops with clients and team members
Key Competencies
• Should be able to analyze and understand new domains quickly
• Ability to maintain context on multiple assignments and still contribute effectively on all of them
• Should have subject knowledge on various technologies associated with B2B and B2C software applications
• Ability to spearhead stakeholder discussions
• Ability to align solution design with key business goals - both strategic and tactical
• Should be able to function as team's advocate, to the engineering, analytics, sales and project management teams
Basic Qualifications:.
Experience in relevant or related fields
Preferred Qualifications:
• Organizational Leadership - This person should have experience leading UX team. Exposure to working across time zone and locations is preferred. Experience leading, mentoring and growing design teams.
• Communication Skills - While it is required this person to be hands on, he/she must also be able to communicate effectively with customers and constituents outside the team.
• Technical feasibility & Business acumen - This person must have a strong understanding of contemporary technology platforms such as Java frameworks, mobile app development and UX implications of industry 4.0, so as to enable Huemen to capitalize on emerging technologies
• Domain Expertise – An in depth understanding of User Centric Design Process and Agile product development life cycle is highly desirable.

The role is based out of our Mountain View Studio.
