Responsibilities and Qualifications
The Global Brand Director is responsible for memorializing and evolving Bell’s iconic brand DNA and design language and leveraging it across all touch-points. This person will define and articulate the Bell brand in a way that empowers internal teams, sets Bell apart in the industry and channel’s that Bell participates in. The ideal candidate will be well versed in current trends and cultures in order to keep the brand relevant and authentic over time. This individual will provide managerial leadership to the following functions: Industrial Design, Creative Services/Brand Design, and Product Graphics, bringing innovative world class products and design services into production on time and within budget. This position will be responsible for defining the product design strategy in partnership with the senior team of product management, marketing and engineering/development to ensure a cohesive approach in the design, development and marketing of our products. The ideal candidate is a highly creative, dynamic and inspirational individual.
Essential Functions:
• Work with senior management to establish strategic trajectory for the brand
• Establish creative direction for the brand through overarching design themes and brand language
• Ensure fidelity of the brand in industrial design and communications
• Work with the industrial design, marketing, creative services and brand marketing teams to develop and enable implementation of brand strategies
• Develop and enforce company style guidelines, web graphic design guidelines, and design templates for global implementation
• Drive disruptive market changing industrial design concepts and technologies for our next generation of products and beyond
• Lead the Industrial Design team to define robust solutions that satisfy the product functional requirements
• Drive the importance of understanding clear product definition during the design process while infusing inspired creativity
• Lead the industrial design engineering team in developing and executing verification and validation test plans
• Stay abreast and share the latest relevant technologies and products with the team; be able to anticipate what we should do next & effectively communicate to the team
• Continually evaluate and improve the team’s designs for cost effectiveness, manufacturing improvements, increased quality and value
• Lead the functional teams’ in identifying and implementing new ideas, products, features and packaging that improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs and keep our product line at the forefront of our industry
• Ensure Industrial Designers are maintaining their projects communication information on the Project Status Sheet, Bill of Materials (BOM), schedules and Design Checklists
• Accountable for directing and managing the creation, maintenance, and publication of all Industrial Design, Product Graphics and Creative Services/Brand Design schedules, while driving on-time delivery and reliability of all new projects within budget
• Develop and nurture industrial design and graphic themes for all product categories
• Oversee the development and management for packaging and retail design for use worldwide
• Study the creative marketplace, assessing trend and competitive landscape in order to remain authentic and relevant to our customers
• Work with the product marketing, engineering/development, marketing, creative services/brand design, product graphics and industrial design teams to ensure that brand standards and product design are consistent with brand DNA and are strategically compelling
• Partner with the Marketing Director to identify key influencers and organizations to serve as brand partners
• Articulate and steer product roadmap & strategy to ensure Brand relevance
• Lead Vision team collaboration process
• Set expectations, standards and create an internal culture of gathering insights, creative collaboration, strategic thinking, professionalism and personal development
• Direct the gathering of insights within each culture served by the brand and generate reports capable of influencing strategy and creative execution and inform the Bell organization
• Lead and inspire the creative spirit, while ensuring a high degree of brand consistency and quality in all creative deliverables
• Facilitate and lead collaborative sessions with internal teams to generate ideas for creative design concepts and deliverables
• Collaborate with the Marketing Director and our partner advertising agencies to ensure consistency between marketing campaigns and brand design
• Develop an approved list of vendors trained in our brand standards, and monitor their quality
• Manage functional department budgets, ensure that each cost center comes in on, or under budget as required by business conditions
• Manages staff in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable laws
• Leads by example
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Design or related field, or equivalent education
• 10+ years of creative and design experience, preferably in both agency and brand driven corporate environments
• 5+ years in a management role
• Stellar, award-winning portfolio that shows hands-on development of design and brand creation through relevant product graphics, interactive, social and viral experiences
• Proven ability to bring strong voice and vision to industrial design, product graphics and creative services/brand design keeping the brand authentic to its DNA and design language
• Recognized success in balancing multiple projects and collaboration across disciplines
• A visual problem solver with expert design chops
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience in a fast-paced design and manufacturing environment
