Director of Packaging Quality
Be the “Voice of the Customer” in all packaging quality related development and manufacturing processes across Niagara’s network. This position will coordinate the efforts of multiple departments to ensure that packaging quality is built in to our finished products and that customer expectations are always met.
This Corporate Quality Assurance position reports to the VP of Quality and Food Safety, with regular reporting and interaction with Product Development, Engineering, Procurement, Quality, R&D, and Manufacturing teams.

Essential Functions
• Ensure all packaging changes and projects meet customer quality expectations
• Combine technical expertise, solid project management, and cross-functional team skills to provide a complete source of packaging quality systems for the plant and Corporate teams
• Work with Corporate Quality and Product Development teams to develop laboratory expertise and regular testing of finished product and raw materials to validate corporate specifications and standards
• Work with Supplier Quality and Procurement teams to review supplier quality performance and assist in resolution of non-conformances
• Assist procurement category Managers with negotiations and approval of raw materials from the quality perspective
• Develop packaging quality testing protocols and work with plant personnel to implement across all facilities
• Assist Manufacturing and Quality personnel in resolving any product returns or RMAs due to packaging quality
• Act as a key point of contact for Contract Manufacturing and Sales teams when discussing packaging quality issues
• Work closely with the Operations/Engineering/Quality groups to provide technical support and be instrumental in ensuring that departmental and plant objectives are met in areas such as Safety, Quality, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness
• Recommend, develop, coordinate, and assist other departments with packaging changes, modifications, or developments for productivity improvements, quality improvements, cost savings, and new product development
• Approve all packaging specifications and drawings, as provided by Product Development and R&D teams prior to release to manufacturing facilities.
• Ensure that packaging specifications, supplier processes, and equipment design are aligned to enable first pass quality. Provide technical support and specifications for packaging material requirements within the Niagara Bottling production facilities
• Assist in development of and maintaining an automated specification system for all packaging components
• Develop a robust and efficient trial and sign-off process for all new packaging projects
• Comply with established goals and objectives, maintain procedures regarding Quality’s interface with other departments, and serve as a facilitator through which packaging ideas, requests, questions, and problems are resolved

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Packaging, or a related field required
• 10 to 20 years of Package Quality and Engineering experience required
• Knowledge and experience with plant operations, processing and packaging equipment, preferably in the bottling industry
• Experience in injection and blow-molding PET and HDPE a plus
• Experience may include a combination of work experience and education
Competencies
• Proven ability to statistically determine equipment and packaging material compatibility through Design of Experiment (DOE) or other similar process
• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects
