Business Purpose:
The Business Process Lead, Transportation leads and is accountable for the development and implementation of best in class Transportation optimization solutions, planning, and work process improvements, for all forms of freight for Campbell’s Meals & Beverage (M&B), and Pepperidge Farm (PF). Responsibilities include driving breakthrough cost savings, masterplan support and development, and overall facilitation of a customer/consumer responsive distribution network across divisions for North America. Additionally, the Business Process Lead, is a critical role in the Supply Chain Logistics and Planning organization, responsible for leading the Transportation enabler program, owning technology /TMS platforms, strengthening the effectiveness of relationships with our Transportation partners, and improvement of work processes and methodologies across the Campbell enterprise.
The Business Process Lead will be responsible for the overall innovation, continuous improvement work processes and technologies for all finished / non-finished goods Transportation. This entails supporting the strategic planning for the transportation network, with an external view to emerging customer/consumer requirements, for M&B and PF, which includes driving broad transportation network design and optimization. This role will be accountable for partnering with internal/external stakeholders to lead best practice identification and benchmarking in the overall work processes, analytics, delivery methods and service, as well as leading the efforts to deliver year on year value add projects. The Business Process Lead must have substantial leadership, collaboration, problem solving, and communication skills, and will lead technology solutions, innovation, work process improvements, and overall cost savings efforts, for a Transportation Network with a spend pool > $300MM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Help develop and support the strategic plan for the Transportation organization, while delivering high levels of service, driving end to end Supply Chain efficiencies and growing strategic carrier/3PL partnerships for the M&B and Pepperidge Farm.
Duties include:
1. Commercial
• Corporate owner for the commercial relationship / business execution of the Transportation Management System (TMS) and partnership with Transplace, including base functionality, continuous improvement development / mods, and freight payment management
2. Technical / Operational
• Be the ‘expert’ in Transportation law and regulatory requirements, industry trends and best practices, technology solutions, customs brokers and cross border, and customer requirements, proactively managing risks and opportunities in each
• Systems – Accountable for the overall performance and management of TMS functions, including reporting, payment, organization and system interfaces, carrier set-up (compliance and training), storage / plant location mapping, routing guide development, and custom reporting / dashboards, among others. Deep understanding and knowledge of technology and innovation. Accountable for the successful design (business requirements), testing, and validation of business required modifications spanning the TMS , WMS (Red Prairie), YMS, and SAP.
• In depth knowledge of Transportation terms, pricing, network design, Transportation operations and productivity, inbound materials and yard management best practices, and industry leading TMS knowledge and application.
• Lead the Business Continuity Planning (BCP) process for the Transportation department, ensuring protocols and countermeasures are in place that minimize the impact of potential planning disruptions and risk.
3. Financial
• Management of multiple cost savings projects (enablers) – scope definition, planning, documentation / vetting, timeline execution, and leadership of cross functional teams
• Leader of Transportation Network Enabler (cost savings) process, delivering > 4%+ YoY improvements in spend reduction. Accountable for ideation (ZLA), pipeline management, and overall Network project execution.
• Ownership of end to end Source to Pay process for freight, including leading role in the systems and processes related to accruals, freight payment processing and financial reporting across all divisions.

Analytical / Organizational
• Ability to quickly learn and use a variety of system tools. Individual will need to develop significant expertise in multiple systems that are critical to analyzing and influencing the daily Logistics business. Direct experience with SAP, WMS / Red Prairie , TMS, and / or other enterprise systems is required. The lead will be the network owner for upstream capacity and operational modeling, being the Transportation conduit into the SC Network Ops Team.
• Leads the Transportation Network’s Continuous Improvement and Loss Analysis efforts, fueling ideas for Strat Plan and Enabler delivery
Requirements:
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related degree; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 4-8 years’ experience working in the Supply Chain space preferred experience within Transportation / Logistics industry, with Warehousing, Planning, and other Logistics proficiencies preferred. Functional and strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain strategy is fundamental to this challenging role.
• Must have proficiency in managing operations with the storage and handling of food grade / regulated products, and be knowledgeable of FDA / USDA / Health Canada Transportation requirements, as well as cross border and export / import documentation needs and product governance / traceability.
• Knowledge of industry trends and best practices for carrier and 3PL / TMS outsourcing. Must have experience in procuring (purchasing) various modes of freight, and leading / driving freight bids across national accounts and across different product divisions. Must have experience in managing national fuel strategy.
• Demonstrated proficiency in managing Logistics Operations in a highly seasonal / variable volume business.
This position reports to the Director of North American Transportation, and will be located at Campbell’s WHQ in Camden, NJ. This role may require up to 10% – 15% travel.
