Job Description:
This position is responsible for purchasing all protective packaging items. Experience in the both rigid and flexible industry is preferred. In addition, this position must be familiar with protective packaging material and suppliers. The Director of Packaging will be responsible for developing and implementing packaging sourcing strategies to support key commercial unit requirements and objectives. This individual will work with direct report(s) to manage the execution of these strategies to ensure that B&G Foods obtains the best overall value as well as a reliable and secure supply of these critical materials.
Responsibilities:
• Lead Strategic Supplier Relationships to jointly drive value beyond cost, leveraging supplier capability to deliver both top and bottom line business benefit.
• In conjunction with Category leads, develop category management strategies for cost reduction and value. enhancement to result in tangible benefits to the bottom line with sound knowledge on internal analysis and external market analysis.
• Evaluate strategies based on changing market conditions and provide inputs during strategic sourcing activities, including internal and external analysis and negotiations.
• Lead coaching and individual training/development for the team as required building capability to deliver overall category objectives.
• Drive development of enabler cost savings/value add initiatives with x-functional partners and suppliers.
• Ensure consistent and accurate cost saving tracking to support the North American Supply chain targets.
• Contribute to and support the development and implementation of best practice Procurement work processes across the Global Procurement organization and across the interfaces with other business functions (e.g. Finance, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain in each region).
• Ensure quality of materials, competitive pricing, adherence to company policies, Procurement processes and endeavors related to the operation of a proactive and strategic Global Procurement Business Unit.
• Ensure a deep understanding of supply markets and drivers for key commodities - e.g. Steel, Tinplate, Glass, Resin
• Coordinate Supply Chain initiatives including working capital management and minimizing obsolescence Responsible for an excess of $200MM of Packaging spend with high complexity.
• Must have a solid understanding of global market dynamics and risk management strategies available to protect supply and budgets.
• Leading and driving complex Supplier Relationship Management programs.
• Developing cross-functional category strategies that effectively balance business unit requirements and ensure consistent and quality availability of supply.
• Build a team culture of engagement and manage effectively to attract, retain and continuously develop business unit talent.
• Leading the team to develop new sources of supply and initiate value opportunities to ensure leverage, business continuity and support the EBITA goals of divisions.
• Administering solid control systems around purchasing and risk management activity.
Experience, Skills, Education:
• A minimum of a BA/BS degree required; MBA preferred
• A minimum of 10 years of related procurement experience within a CPG environment required
• 2 years of prior people management experience required
• 5 Years of Supply Chain experience required
• CPSM and/or APICS certified preferred
• Packaging knowledge to support Agricultural business units preferred
