Job Summary
Implements an Environmental Management System (EMS) to meet the regulatory requirements of federal, state and local entities. Directs and leads platform environmental managers on compliance responsibilities, conducts training on priority items identified from internal audits and develops action plans to reduce risk exposures. 10 years related experience.
Position Responsibilities
• Develops, plans and leads the implementation of the Corporate Environmental Management System.
• Ensures facilities are operating in compliance with all applicable Federal, State and local regulations as well as Corporate Environmental Policies and Procedures.
• Serves as primary contact for assigned platform locations on EMS implementation support activities. Provides frequent communication and reporting of activities as appropriate to platform VP Operations, Engineering, Senior Director, Environment and site EHS managers as appropriate.
• Supports the environmental review/assessment process for the systems put in place to ensure that responsibilities are being met, corrective actions taken and follow up completed. Assessment activities may be assigned for other platforms verses assigned platform to provide independent review.
• Identifies and controls environmental risk to maximize shareholder value. Ensures that the work structure is focused on high risk items and provide direction in prioritization and remediation of those items at individual facilities within the platform.
• Supports the capital allocation/planning process to ensure environmental compliance and sustainability needs are identified within the platform and partner with Corporate Engineering to ensure a seamless implementation of capital for the platform. In conjunction with Corporate Engineering, defines the scope of work for environmental needs on new capital projects within the platform. Involvement in platform strategic planning that anticipates future requirements on environmental needs.
• Provides due diligence support relative to environmental issues related to acquisitions and divestitures. Manages any environmental consultants that may be retained for the purpose of due diligence.
• Supports the Sustainable Development efforts of the Corporation including but not limited to waste reduction programs, energy and water conservation programs, etc.
• Provides site training expertise for the Environmental Management System to ensure compliance for all locations within the platform.
• Provides expertise to facilitate sharing of good practices and procedures on compliance, water use, energy use, waste minimization, and wastewater treatment. Provides operational knowledge of environmental control systems for troubleshooting activities and ongoing guidance for successful operation to meet permit requirements.
• Supports Conagra’s Performance System by leading all relevant environmental matters in support of the Environmental, Health & Safety Pillar.
• Assists the organization in setting and developing a strategy to achieve goals related to greenhouse gas, water usage and waste intensity reduction.
Position Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Environmental, Engineering, Biology or Chemistry).
• Masters in Science or Engineering and/or professional registration, preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required.
• Ability to engage employees to successfully implement the Environmental strategy in the respective platform.
• Excellent leadership capabilities required.
• Ability to travel 60%.
• 10 years of progressive experience in the safety, health or environment and/or engineering field is preferred including at least 5 years of multi-site responsibility preferred.
• Good knowledge of all environmental regulations and their impact on the food industry.
• Good presentation skills including excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in implementing computer based programs to simplify compliance and improve documentation and metrics.
