Job Summary
For all plants within scope, provide the leadership and oversight from a food safety, quality and regulatory compliance standpoint. Implements programs within given functional area of the food safety and quality group under limited supervision. Responsible for supporting the implementation of relevant processes and procedures, and the daily execution of activities related to their functional area. Provides technical expertise in area of responsibility and able to function as subject matter expert in this area. Provides leadership and guidance to team. Develops and delivers objectives around performance and direction of the department. Effectively communicates all quality concerns, improvements and strategies to the team. Manages a team and provides coaching and development of others. Support and collaborate with peers to provide consistent direction and priorities.
Position Responsibilities
• Supports Supply Chain Quality in the adoption and disciplined use of policies and procedures.
• Engages and empowers team in new and existing processes by providing them with the necessary tools and information needed for continuous improvement in platform manufacturing processes.
• Supports use of toolboxes (SPC, CPS (TQM), universal problem solving, root cause analysis, CAPA,QM 10 Step, SRC etc.) to measure and control quality systems and processes for continuous improvement.
• Ensures seamless exchange of technical and product information with all functional areas.
• Supports Supply Chain Quality in embedding systemic corrective and preventative actions regarding internal and third party audit deficiencies.
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with Supply Chain leadership
• Serves as expert resource for all facilities to drive continuous food safety improvement initiatives.
• Drives continuous improvement in area of expertise and technical function.
• Collaborates with other functions to advance awareness and education of food safety and quality.
• Gathers and studies data to understand trends and issues in order to provide input to decisions related to product safety and quality in areas of assigned responsibility.
• Assist or supervise others in the organization within assigned technical areas of responsibility.
• Provides technical and decision-making support and/or data analysis in managing situations and issues relative to quality and/or food safety.
• Gather and study DDD (loss) data to ensure root cause has been determined and reduction efforts are adequate.
• Collaborates and provide technical support to appropriate functions and employees to assure, food safety and quality of company products.
• Gauges and evaluates effectiveness and assure continuous improvements in assigned areas of responsibility.
• Designs and implements processes and procedures within assigned technical area(s) of responsibility.
• Participates on cross functional teams to assure effective implementation and adherence of QA initiatives and process improvement of our suppliers, under limited supervision.
• Performs assigned technical tasks/duties associated with department processes and procedures.
• Interfaces/provides technical support to appropriate functions and employees to assure regulatory compliance, food safety and quality of company products.
• Interfaces directly with R&D, plants and platform quality members to ensure early management tools are used for all new product start-ups.
• Collaborates outside of FPRA organization to drive efficiencies and effectiveness with regards to food safety and quality.
• Responsible for understanding and executing against budget for their team.
• Engaged in interview and selection process for QA leadership at the plants. Facilitate performance issues for plant staffs.
• Sets goals and strategies for the department.
Position Qualifications
• BS in Food, Biological or Chemical Science or related field required. MS preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of food industry experience in Quality Assurance require.
• Proven leadership skills as related to quality assurance in the manufacturing environment.
• Proven track record in people management (developing, coaching, mentoring, directing) and budget management.
• Strong relationship skills to achieve sustainable partnerships and collaboration internally and externally.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully direct multiple functions in establishing and delivering product quality improvements.
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate Quality Assurance objectives across all levels of an organization.
• Excellent negotiating skills when working through conflict resolution.
• Experience with using a full range of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
• Ability to travel up to 60% of the time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible company representative.
Physical Requirements (optional)
• Ability to sit, walk and/or stand for up to 8 hours a day
• Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis
• Pushing/pulling various plant materials and/or equipment
• Will maneuver in cramped/confined spaces
• Exposure to manufacturing environments for up to 8 hours per work day to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies
• Frequent bending and/or crawling; must be able to move safely and freely around machinery
• Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 8 hours if needed
