The Director will work as a key member of the customer leadership team to develop, define, and deliver a global strategy for the category and for Mondelez International.
Major Responsibilities:
Customer Strategy: The selected candidate will work closely with the Walmart Customer VP and sales leadership team in leading the development of the customer strategy. Additionally, s/he will work with business unit teams to create strategies across the Mondelez International portfolio with customer that build shareholder value, and ensure these strategies result in actionable plans. Guide end-to-end strategy development and make adjustments to existing strategies based upon new learning and changes in the competitive environment. Evaluate the business portfolio and make recommendations on changes to the focus and levels of investment/ resource allocation. Contribute to business growth by identifying and prioritizing potential business opportunities and evaluating opportunities.
Business Unit Strategies and Cross-Company Interactions: Counsel with customer leadership to ensure their strategies are connected with corporate strategy. Test insights against Mondelez International business units’ strategies and adjust strategies as appropriate. Embed long-term strategic thinking into on-going business processes within Mondelez International. Lead, develop, manage and track trade effectiveness and associated processes; across both Walmart and Sam’s Club. Works to develop “wider scope” research projects.
Shopper Insights & Category Advisor: Stay abreast of industry, competitive, and innovation trends that can impact Mondelez International. Analyze competitive insights from cross-functional, multi-national sources across the company and translate it to meaningful implications and actions. This position will lead shopper-focused business analysis, insight discovery, and strategy development to support Mondelez International’ and customer’s business objectives (e.g. revenue, volume and marketing objectives) for customer teams and the category advisor teams. This is achieved, primarily, through application of analytical and insight tools to business issues. This position is further differentiated from SI manager positions by providing thought leadership to the Sales Organization and customers on the identification of opportunities. The Director has in-depth knowledge of customers and the buying dynamics and motivations of their shopper. This position plays a leadership role in category management initiatives, conducting category management reviews, analyzing business issues, and providing business insights and recommendations to improve business results. The position has shared accountability for business results and building and developing a team of SI professionals along a functional/technical career track. The Director excels in the integration of customer, consumer, and shopper/consumer information to build knowledge and insights that can be used to improve business performance. The Director will also demonstrate an ability to manage and develop people through coordination of business information application and insight development planning and training, continually working to improve the value of shopper insights to the Company. The Director manages the team of Sales Insights and Category Advisors with responsibility for personnel development and career planning.
Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree required
• 10 to 15 years consumer package goods industry experience; with at least 3-5 years of people management experience
• Working with Walmart/Sam’s Club and Retail/Operations experience is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving capability.
• Strong quantitative analysis (syndicated data knowledge) and custom research experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel and PowerPoint) required.
• Extensive experience utilizing POS and syndicated data (e.g. Retail Link, ACNielsen, IRI, Spectra, and Household Panel) is needed.
• Expertise in consumer and shopper platforms such as Source of Volume, Trial & Repeat, Buyer Conversion, Consumer Segmentations, and Market Basket Analysis.
• Able to demonstrate a strong understanding and application of analytics and shopper insights and leverage best demonstrated practices.
• Demonstrated ability to uncover strategic opportunities for growth.
• Demonstrated ability to influence business partners through integrated view of the business and application of business judgment.
• Able to develop consumer insights and apply those insights to drive business results.
• Strong industry / sales knowledge with emphasis on category and space management.
• Solid organization, project management and planning skills.
• Strong written / oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment.
• People management experience and skills.
