Flavor Trainee

Position:Flavor Trainee
Reports To:Senior Flavor Chemist
Position Type:Full Time
Location: Twin Falls, ID
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage the flavor library and customer sampling system
• Maintain an organized and clean flavor lab.
• Compound liquid and powder flavors and adjust formulations based on input received from Flavor chemist.
• Create new formulations proactively to increase flavor formulation knowledge.
• Prepare for monthly flavor tests by studying SFC syllabus and using industry publications with the goal of taking first SFC formal test (apprentice) after year 5 and second test (certification) after year 7.
• Perform typical flavor laboratory activities e.g. distillation and liquid extraction.
• Operate QA equipment such as balances, pH meter, refractometer, flash point analyzer, GCMS.
• Maintain and update database of flavors and associated documentation.
• Prepare documentation including Product Specifications, SDS, Nutritional, SOP’s
• Work in conjunction with the flavor scientists to follow project outlines.
• Support applications with projects as needed.
• Maintain inventory of needed supplies and ingredients and procure same as required.
• Record information including lab methods, results and general observations.
• Take assigned samples for lab analysis and shelf life studies
• Ability to move packages weighing up to 25lbs.
• Read through Standard Operating Procedures and help update.
• Work courteously and tactfully with laboratory clients, the public and employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Experience/Skills:
• Requires a Bachelors’ degree (B.S or B.A.) in Chemistry, Food Science or related field.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel and possess good report writing and communication skills.
• Must possess good math and analytical skills
• Must possess good sensory skills i.e. taste and smell.
• Accomplish assigned tasks with precision and accuracy
• Excellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctuality
• Self-motivated and ability to work with little supervision
