Position Overview:This position leads all CCNA interaction for NARTD Beverage Category Insights to senior leaders in Commercial, Category Strategic Advisory, Sales Leadership, Portfolio Strategy & Innovation, and Sales Capabilities. Leverages category, consumer, shopper and marketplace intelligence to deliver business critical insights that influence the strategic direction for TCCC’s primary national initiatives. This role will work cross-functionally to deliver beverage category insights across all channels of trade and all CCNA Category Business Units in line with our North American portfolio strategy. The Director of Category Insights will utilize a deep understanding of storyboarding, advanced analytics, insight commercialization, and alignment to retailer priorities in partnership with key stakeholders (CBU General Managers, Channel Development Leads, Brand Leads, National Sales VP’s and Executive Leadership at retailers) to provide solutions for complex business questions and opportunities.
The role requires advanced usage of syndicated, proprietary, and custom research data sets to ascertain the key drivers of performance as well as strong communication skills (verbal, written, & visual) and innovative commercialization routines to deploy insights throughout the organization. Additionally, this role manages a team of four (4) national category managers – requiring experience in developing, guiding, and motivating a high-performing team.
Function Specific Activities:
Function Related Activities / Key Responsibilities
• Provide category insights and thought leadership that supports the end-to-end portfolio commercialization & annual business planning process while ensuring alignment to Category Business Unit strategies and plans.
• Serve as the Total Beverage Category Insights Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the above mentioned key client group through advanced usage and understanding of Nielsen/IRI, shopper card, and internal proprietary data and systems.
• Develop eCommerce/Omnichannel category management principles and skills within the team – to include digital shelf optimization, online market structures, and retailer advisory services for beverages online. Steward this knowledge to relevant areas of the business, specifically the Digital Commerce teams.
• Lead beverage portfolio insights development for the Commercial Leadership teams as they partner with CBU teams to provide linkage to the overall Portfolio Strategy in the CBU planning processes.
• Lead processes to develop and deliver actionable insights to ensure that Ops Decks & Sales materials include strong fact-based selling content for NRS, NFS, & high leverage channels in Traditional Trade – and in the right format to be effectively utilized across the System.
• Partner with Category Management COE Director and VP Category Advisory on key initiatives including vendor selection, capability development, personnel training, and strategic project support.
• Organize team deliverables against the most important priorities with an eye for elevating skills and outputs for a diverse portfolio of brands and stakeholders across the System.
• Provide total beverage category trends, forecasts, and growth drivers to include in standardized Ops Decks, PAGs, Selling Decks, etc. with Retail connection points. Ensure regular sharing & alignment with counterpart in NFS category advisory.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with Category Commercialization, Revenue Growth Management, Category Advisory and Customer teams. Act as the commercial subject matter expert for beverages overall and be the Commercial Leadership & NRS single point of contact for NARTD information and expertise.
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree
Required Work Experience:
Minimum:
• 7+ years of experience in category management, shopper insights, and/or business analysis within the consumer goods industry
• Experience in analytics within the eCommerce/Omnichannel segment
• Experience managing a team of direct reports
Preferred
• 10+ years of experience in category management, portfolio strategy, and/or shopper insights
• Experience working directly with eCommerce customers
• Experience on an omnichannel team or supplier that focuses on the segment
• Experience managing a multiyear portfolio growth plan
Functional Skills:
• Business Consulting Skills: Ability to identify opportunities and gaps for both KO and customers/channels via a holistic understanding of business fundamentals and application of quantitative and qualitative industry, shopper and retailer/supplier insights.
• Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex information and implications both verbally, in interactions with senior customer leaders, and in written presentations, utilizing "storytelling techniques" to communicate a clear, compelling and cohesive story.
• Analytic Skills: Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, opportunities and gaps, and integrate across disparate data sources.
• Marketing Research Knowledge: Knowledge of industry resources (e.g., Nielsen/IRI, ePOS, Kantar/RNG, etc.), research methodologies, and proprietary tools (e.g., ISHOP, DINE360, etc.).
• Technical Familiarity: Ability to learn and effectively use information/business tools and platforms (i.e., RichMix, JDA, Alteryx/Tableau/Microstrategy, 1010 Data, Profitero, MS Office Suite, etc.) to obtain and analyze relevant information.
