POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Director, R&D Foods provides strategic leadership of product development initiatives in at least two product forms and/or product categories. This position is responsible for on-time product launches and will use established metrics to track key development activities, budgets and resource requirements.
The Director brings expert technical leadership and knowledge of advanced principles, concepts and theory related to beverage/food products & ingredients, as well as supplement vitamins/minerals and chemical ingredients used by the category s/he leads. Director will provide expert leadership in Ingredients, Product and Process Development.
The Director manages up to eight professional R&D staff within the functional areas of R&D as well as oversees the approval of product formulations and manufacturing processes that meet cost, quality and acceptability targets. As a technology Leader, this role is responsible for all product development activities of the scientists/engineers in their department.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
• Manages development of Herbalife products, in a collaborative manner with R&D Product Groups, Marketing, Quality, Licensing, Scientific Affairs and other functional personnel.
• Manages the development of standards for raw material selection, product formulations, process requirements and finished goods specifications and tolerances.
• Leads the design, research and development of new applications/programs that result in new products/business opportunities
• Oversees two or more key functional areas with regional/global responsibility
• Oversees manufacturability of products the resolution of complex technical issues at global manufacturing sites as required to support new product development, maintain supply continuity or to enhance process efficiency or product quality, reviews and approves product and process deviations
• Strategically selects methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
• Develops and administers the budget, schedules and performance standards of group
• Assists in the resolution of complex technical issues and technology transfer both internally and externally
• Ensures that global new product development is followed timely on a consistent basis
• Coordinates technical staff at corporate and at regional sites, coordinating with regional R&D leaders, to ensure that consistent processes are used and that sharing of process knowledge and best practices are implemented
• Uses project mgmt. tools (e.g. Agile) for tracking, R&D metrics and technical reviews to assure accurate reporting and timely implementation
• Supports development of new products by assisting cross functional departments with alternate concepts and requirements to meet product claims, providing data necessary for the preparation of Dossiers and assists with the approval of new or alternate vendors that meet the technical requirements for new products.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills:

Experience:
• 10 years’ experience in Product Development, with demonstrated leadership and product results
• 7 years of management and staff development experience
• Comprehensive understanding of practical issues in multiple major functional areas and applies application of knowledge.
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree with major in Food, Nutritional Sciences or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters or PhD preferred
• Proven career experience in collateral classes of trade or international business experience
• Track record of other functional responsibilities that demonstrates capacity beyond traditional development function (e.g. flavor, sensory)
• Additional education or experience demonstrating communication and organizational skills
