Job Description
Over the next 5 years, PepsiCo will launch a new growth platform (Mini-meals) positioned against convenient, nutritious foods to deliver incremental growth through new occasions: Push our nutrition business into new occasions in the afternoon and evening and allow our snack business to capture broader macro consumption occasions through purposeful nutrition and satiety and Channel Penetration & New Space: Focus on distribution through eCommerce and Food service in workplace. We will also provide solutions for traditional brick and mortar, large and small format, with focus on items that command new space in these outlets
The overarching role of the Commercialization Director is to enable growth via the flawless execution, at scale, of Mini Meals innovation pipeline via program and project management excellence, agile commercial processes and execution and effective leverage of total PepsiCo and 3rd party resources.
Given that the specificity of this new strategic platform, this function is pivotal to lead and develop differentiated and alternative business models and approaches to ensure each launch is set for success, measured against timing, quality, reach and revenues, while working in an small, agile and multi-functional team having a direct matrix report to the SVP of Innovation leading the Mini-Meals platform.
While working with the Innovation SVP and Sr Director of Commercialization on building the right business model to launch a range of Mini-Meals innovation the overarching accountability is to program manage and launch those starting in US in 2019 with reach to other countries and regions across the globe in 2020 and beyond. Specifically::
• Assess the portfolio of innovation in size, feasibility and affordability and recommend priorities and trade-offs: what are the key platforms, what new capabilities are required, what are the key gaps, what are the challenges and potential alternative solutions
• Program and project management including risk, contingency, budget and stakeholder management
• Define and lead the project teams and overall working processes
• Build and develop new approaches and alternative solutions to land and execute each innovation project according to the brief, scoping both internal and external solutions with clear trade-off analisys
• Based on the above, what are the key decisions, action, risks and contingencies to enable delivery of the innovation agenda
• Leverage and drive convergence with all Global Groups agenda to drive synergy & efficiency in resources and ways of working
• Leverage and drive convergence with the sustainability agenda when relevant/required (e.g. packaging, nutritional guardrails, water waste)
• Lead the project teams to search for non-standard solutions when required and build an entrepreneurial mindset
• Provide pro-active stakeholders feedback during all stages of breakthrough global programs to ensure that the right level of decisioin & support is obtained or the issues are tackled on-time
• Build robust knowledge of current internal & external capabilities for the markets involved and strong stakeholder network with R&D, Supply-Chain, Procurement, Finance and Sales Execution at Global, Sector and BU level
• Embrace and apply continued improvement of commercialization process / Speed to Market / design thinking and RWOW
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 12+ years relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
• MBA or Masters Preferred
• Proven results delivering significant business change within a fast-paced cross functional matrix environment
• Very high level of business acumen - must be commercially & organizationally savvy and financially astute
• Outstanding communication skills, ability to be both challenging & enabling and influence others at all levels, comfortable managing conflict
• Proven commercial project leadership/management skills
• High level of curiosity, creative and with outstanding entrepreneurial mindset & problem solving skills
• Experience managing small teams with limited resources in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders
• Global acumen with passion for local execution
• Proven and progressive leadership skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative style of working
• Network builder – ability to establish and maintain a network of key contacts to be enabled both formally and unformally when needed
• Change champion - ability to lead others to think and act differently according to the challenge/problem to solve or the business needs
• Deep operating knowledge of how to commercialize both large and small scale innovation from ideation to shelf
• Good knowledge of PepsiCo’s Operating Model, Make/Move/Sell capability
• Good knowledge of consumer ideation, design thinking and insights processes
• Understanding of how the product development works
• Ideally with PepsiCo and commercial/business development experience in the snacks category
