Overview
Sleep Number is a consumer-driven innovation company with a mission to individualize sleep experiences. In order to deliver on our customer promise, we will be evolving our Supply Chain network. Sleep Number is seeking a highly qualified senior manufacturing operations director to lead the startup of 6 new bed assembly manufacturing sites in the Sleep Number delivery network. This highly visible role will report to the Vice President of Manufacturing and will lead cross-functional manufacturing teams across multiple sites within a matrix organization. This role will lead the execution of assembly operations ramp up including organization design and execution, facility readiness, and equipment procurement and validation. Once total network is established, role will evolve to have operational responsibility for 2-4 manufacturing sites.
Responsibilities
• In line with network evolution strategy, collaborate with Director of Warehousing and other functional departments to ramp up assembly and regional distribution operations.
• Manage spending against P&L and in relation to changes in project timeline.
• Ensure capability of implemented processes deliver product standards and delivery execution which meet customers’ expectations.
• Leverage LEAN principles to drive continuous improvement and build efficient manufacturing operations during setup of each manufacturing site as measured by Key Performance Indicators in all departments and processes.
• Setup manufacturing, order fulfillment, receiving, materials, training and maintenance capabilities which will ensure optimal operating efficiency.
• Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure that assembly operations support Sleep Number’s strategic initiatives.
• Establish a High Performing Team environment through development of the staff team and establishment of management practices which foster employee involvement.
• Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and establishing a safety-first culture. Maintain housekeeping in all areas through strong 5S implementation.
• Execute plant security procedures to protect Select Comfort people, capital, and inventory assets.
• Represent Select Comfort in the local business communities. Establish annual environmental sustainability objectives and execute action plan to achieve.
Qualifications
• Ten+ years’ experience in operations management role, preferably leading manufacturing or logistics across multiple sites
• Experience with site startups preferred.
• Experience leading complex multi-site projects in a distributed supply chain environment required.
• Demonstrated experience leveraging lean tools to eliminate waste and enhance customer and shareholder value.
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex problems, rapidly identify solutions and communicate to all levels of leadership and partners.
• Experience in one or more of the following adjacent disciplines: manufacturing, materials planning, logistics/transportation.
• Minimum BA/BS degree in business or engineering.
• Preferred MBA or Masters in Engineering.
• Preferred willing to relocate for advancement opportunities.
• Strong Project Management Skills
• World Class Manufacturing Techniques; LEAN expertise desired
• World Class Quality Principles
• OSHA / Safety Requirements for manufacturing.
• Oracle, SAP or other ERP software expertise
• MS Office (Mainly strong in Excel & Powerpoint, and Project)
• Must be able to travel and work long hours as needed; 25-50% to support facility startups
• Must be able to work weekends as needed
