The Director, User Experience will lead a team of Interaction Designers, Visual Designers, and User Researchers to create a best in class customer experience for all of United’s customer-facing digital touchpoints, including mobile app, desktop, mobile web, kiosk, in-flight and digital signage experiences. This individual will create the vision of what a leading digital travel experience can be (shopping, checkout, self-service, and support) and align resources to execute on that vision in a coordinated and agile manner in partnership with our Product and Development Teams. The Director will lead the team, provide guidance, insight and coaching, develop the best talent, direct team activities, structure/lead vendor engagements, provide feedback, and be accountable for the overall quality of the customer experience. The ideal candidate is a proven leader and has a passion for user centered & Accessible design, a deep understanding of eCommerce practices, and a wide breadth of experience across multiple types of products and design methodologies including user research. This role has a global focus and responsibility.
Responsibilities Include:
• Lead the team, from concept through execution, of all facets of a user’s experience on United’s customer-facing digital touchpoints. Activities will include gathering user insights via both qualitative and quantitative methods, translating those insights into actionable features and functionality that can be prototypes and validated back with users – then collaborating with cross-functional agile Product Teams on the final designs.
• Establish and deliver against metrics that show user acceptance, adoption, and promotion of the digital experience
• The Director should provide clear vision, expectations, training, guidance, career growth opportunities and prioritization for team members. Establish a clear mission, direction, and way forward for the Team including aligning customer needs and experience goals with broader company revenue and customer satisfaction goals
• Partner with Product, Development, Personalization, Merchandizing, Data Insights, and other stakeholder Teams to ensure that all efforts are created with consideration for integration within the User Experience vision and design system
• She/He will contribute to the team as the user experience strategy lead by providing subject matter expertise in the areas of visual design, information architecture, digital user behavior, usability testing, research, and other relevant user experience best practices.
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree or 10 years of relevant work experience required. An MBA or relevant post graduate degree preferred.
Experience
• 7+ years of experience in Visual and Interactive Design
• 5+ years of mobile design experience on iOS, Android, and mWeb
• 5+ years managing a UX team
• Prior experience at the Director level
• 3+ years of ecommerce shopping/retail experience
• 2+ years leading a User Research function
Other
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
