Marketing Director, Global Snacks Group - Snacks Development Emerging Markets
Job Description
Our Global Snacks Group (GSG) is focused on Consumer, Brand Strategy and Innovation globally. A major focus area for GSG snacks is the Affordable Snacking Platform which will be the biggest growth opportunity for our snacks business in the next 5-10 years. This platform has the following objectives:
• Win in Savory by significantly growing per caps consumption and/or gaining volume share in Developing & Emerging markets
• Win against strong local / value players in broader “mainstream” and expand into “value” segments (where relevant) by (1) leveraging PEP’s strong brand portfolio – mix of local and global, (2) developing consumer relevant and differentiated “affordable” propositions (e.g., price, pack) and (3) delivering disruptive business model unlocks
The Director of Snacks Development Emerging Markets will report to the VP of Snacks Development Emerging Markets at PepsiCo HQ and focus on leading the agenda to unlock affordable snacking in priority PEP markets (e.g., portfolio of affordable propositions, end-to-end pellet capability, local ingredients, low cost business models)
• Lead strategic assessment of the opportunities and set the strategic agenda, working closely with Marketing / Innovation, Strategy, Supply Chain, R&D, regional category leaders and local market teams
◦ Establish the strategic framework and priorities for affordable snacks (by functional area and market)
◦ Support the development of portfolio solutions to unlock affordability in top D&E markets (e.g., brand, innovation, product / ingredient, packaging)
◦ Design the optimal business model and value chain strategy
• Lead business development of affordable snacks and drive the agenda / play point with top Developing & Emerging markets, with particular focus on:
◦ Expanding PepsiCo’s end-to-end pellet portfolio and capabilities with cross-functional partners
◦ Developing the locally relevant, sustainable propositions delivered via disruptive business models
• Provide guardrails and direction to rest of the organization for “affordable snacking” related decisions, e.g., stage-gate process, innovation & marketing, portfolio and business model design
• Collaborate and partner closely with cross-functional leaders to ensure successful implementation of strategic priorities, propositions and business models in focus markets
• Partner with Global Snacks, regional category and local market teams to develop comprehensive and cohesive implementation and change plan
• Maintain integrated strategic roadmap including master list of initiatives, business case, status, timeline, milestones, interdependencies, risks, geographies, etc. and communicate to the organization
• Develop presentation materials for senior leadership reviews on strategy, plan and implementation status (Sectors, Global Groups, CEO and Board of Directors), and support PepsiCo Strategic Plan (PSP) development
• Understands, develops recommendations and guides critical decisions & trade-offs related to end-to-end business model, financial feasibility, P&L and investments
Qualifications/Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
• 8 years of post-MBA, with experience from strategy consulting firm preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) preferred
• Prior Consumer Packaged Goods experience preferred
• Prior Business Development / Marketing / General Management and/or Strategy experience preferred
• Must be willing to travel 30-50% of the time
Desired skills:
• Excellent leadership skills and drive for results
• Excellent strategic skill set with analytics, critical thinking and problem solving capabilities – ability to operate in ambiguous settings, frame the problem to solve, diagnose the issues, design actionable and high impact strategic solutions, drive the analytics, understand the impact of business model choices and end-to-end P&L drivers
• Experience working in emerging/developing markets – Operating in the emerging market environment requires a lot of “out of the box” solution, working in the data poor environment, using traditional and non-traditional information sources to support recommendations and drive business results
• General management capabilities with strong bias for action and can-do approach to work
• Ability to communicate, collaborate, and influence effectively at all levels of the organization and drive decisions
• Excellent project management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, e.g., power point, story lining and deck writing
• Excellent coaching and people development skills
• Team player and leader with the ability to excel in an agile, collaborative, ambiguous environment
