Job Description
Overview:
The Director of Marketing is responsible for overall business leadership of the $350 MM Snacks Portfolio, the largest category and largest brand (Sensible Portions) within the Hain Celestial North American business. This role reports to the Senior Vice President/General Manager for the Snacks and Personal Care business units and supervises three brand managers and two assistant brand managers. Snacks is a priority category for the company and, as such, has secured incremental investment to drive significant growth in the current and coming fiscal years.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Overall Business Leadership
• Develop and deliver the annual budget including topline sales and operating profit
• Monitor and adjust appropriately to ensure key financial metrics are delivered (full P&L responsibility)
• Work collaboratively to manage the Sales & Operations Planning process to ensure full visibility of business trends, new programs, etc.
• Multi-functional leadership -- work collaboratively across the multi-functional team to ensure priorities are aligned including Sales, Finance, R&D, Operations.
• Work with Sales Planning to develop annual trade plan and trade promotion strategies. Participate monthly/quarterly in reviewing customer plans and trade effectiveness.
New Product Development
• Develop and maintain rolling 3-year innovation plan
• Identify and seek out insights, trends, opportunities to drive innovation development
• Work with R&D and brand managers to develop and commercialize innovation
• Collaborate with Customer Teams and Sales Planning to "sell in" new innovation with customers
• Leadership of new item forecasting to ensure effective supply plans and minimize excess inventory
• Develop and execute launch strategies and support plans including pricing, trade plans, marketing programs
Marketing Plan Development and Execution
• Develop and execute annual marketing plan
• Analysis of marketing plan effectiveness
• Collaborate and negotiate with external marketing agencies to develop most effective and efficient marketing plans
• Challenge team and agencies to be creative and disruptive in plan development
• Packaging Design project development and management -- works with internal creative services team and external design agencies to develop and qualify new packaging graphics for key brands
Business Analysis
• Analyze business trends, consumption, customer results, competitive results, etc. to identify risks and opportunities for the business. Develop plans to address.
• Track and assess new item and marketing program effectiveness. Check and adjust as required.
• Develop pricing strategies based on understanding of price elasticity and competitive price positioning
Management, Presentations, Customer Interface, Budget Management
• Manage a team of 5 marketers ensuring strong performance management, coaching and work plan development and guidance
• Represent the business in key retailer meetings as required
• Lead multi-functional team for S&OP, Innovation management, weekly business execution, etc.
• Maintain robust budget management and ensure no overspending
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree, MBA preferred
• Minimum 10 years' experience in a consumer packaged goods brand management/marketing capacity, ideally Food or Beverage experience, but not required
• Proven track record of delivering sustainable business results, strong P&L management experience
• People leadership and/or management, specifically experience managing others in a supervisory capacity and leading/influencing others across a multi-functional team
• Strong and demonstrated communication and collaboration skills
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated capability in strategic planning and innovation development and management
• Ability to be a "hands on" manager and comfortable owning the execution of plans (not just managing others to do)
• Experience with developing and executing Shopper Marketing Plans
• Experience managing external marketing agencies
