The Data and Analytics team at United Airlines enables broad-based and rapid consumptions of data-driven insights and AI, to benefit employees, customers and shareholders.
Job Overview
As a Director of Corporate Analytics and Data Science, you will be partnering with corporate functions (e.g. HR, Finance, IT) to define and execute data analytics initiatives that drive incremental revenue. You will also be responsible for building data science as a core competency. You will be an experienced technical leader who will work very closely with other teams within Enterprise Data Analytics to deliver on advanced analytics solutions that create sustained value and competitive advantage for United. This role will be responsible to create and maintain AI COE. You will be responsible to acquire talent and be current on recent trends in this area. This position reports to the MD, Data Science.
Responsibilities
• Partner with business leaders to identify key business problems, lead problem solving and collaborate with data engineering and digital technology teams as needed
• Create the vision, strategy and future state of use of Machine Learning models based on business priorities
• Partner with Data Engineering and digital teams to establish a world-class machine learning and AI infrastructure and production environment.
• Be a thought leader to advance the overall state of technology for data science and analytics
• Hiring, mentoring, training, retaining and managing a highly skilled workforce
• Oversee ongoing predictive model management; develop best practices around optimal model refresh and re-estimation
• Maintain a high degree of quality for predictive models
• Provide data-science as a service to adjacent teams and to the business
• Continually evaluate new advanced analytics techniques for application and stay current on emerging trends in data science
• Foster the corporate use of big data, connected data etc.
• Ensure transparency and facilitate clear communication within and across teams
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field and/or equivalent work experience required
• Master’s degree in Analytics, Computer Science or similar preferred
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
• Strong passion to solve business problems with data
• Track record of excellence in statistical modeling and / or predictive models
• Hands-on proficiency with data modeling, analysis and using visualization tools
• Understanding of how and when to apply predictive and machine learning techniques like logistic regression, random forest, GBM, Neural Nets, SVM etc is required
• Proven track record of overseeing multiple data science and machine learning projects at all stages, from idea generation to objectives formulation to implementation and deliverables.
• Strong knowledge of R or Python preferred
• Excellent ability to communicate complex advanced analytical models

Experience
• At least 5 years of experience in an analytical role required
• Project management experience preferred
• At least one year in a supervisory role preferred
