About The Job
Key position responsible for effectively leading and motivating a team of at least five managers and a large diverse group of sales professionals. The Specialty Products Sales organization is charged with American’s sales and distribution strategy within several large and strategic travel segments, including (but not limited to) Group and Meeting Travel, Leisure Sales, consolidator agencies, tour operators, student travel distributors, cruise companies, and “neo” Premium Leisure Boutiques. The director and team establish and achieve revenue and cost objectives within the business units and set strategy to secure long-term success for American Airlines within their set of strategic sales channels. Success depends on effectively designing products, implementing creative programs, collaborating with external partners, navigating internal stakeholder departments, leveraging technology, working with joint business partners, and executing sales/communication strategies. In addition, as chief spokesperson, this person will champion the mission of Specialty Products externally and raise American Airlines’ profile within its key market segments.
• Leads by establishing and promoting a strong strategy for the business unit which puts American Airlines in front of the competition. Seeks opportunities for continuous improvement; influences stakeholders; and implements products, programs and policies to increase revenue, improve customer relationships and employee experience
• Supports key performance measures by setting and communicating goals to create a high performance culture, which exceeds performance measurements in productivity enhancements and cost control
• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting the proper mode of communication (verbal and/or written) to effectively communicate business decisions. Follow through to ensure understanding and acceptance of information shared by all assigned leaders
• Oversees gathering of market intelligence regarding relevant airline activities, programs, and policies
• Creatively uses organizational alignment to make optimum use of resources
• Seeks to capture incremental high yield revenues by leveraging premium product line where appropriate
• Analyzes economics of potential commission/discount or other programs to ensure profitability for the company
• Acts as a high-level representative for all national corporate, global agencies, online and key regional accounts; represents American Airlines at industry events in that regard
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to enhancing both internal and external customer focus, ability to provide timely feedback related to customer service, sales or specialty issues, and uses strong cross-departmental network to influence the proper customer outcomes.
• Works closely with Revenue Management, Agency Programs, Sales Strategy, Network Planning, Marketing, Government Affairs and other departments to advocate for proper resources
• Manages staff, including recruitment, training, leadership development, coaching, and counseling
• Establishes and maintains a positive work environment that encourages and rewards excellence while fostering team-spirit through engagement.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business-related discipline or equivalent experience/training
• 5 years airline or related sales experience
• 5 years management/leadership experience
• 2 years concentrated analytical experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree
• Prior experience working with or in Leadership roles within Global Sales, Sales Strategy, Field/International Sales, and/or Revenue Management
• Previous experience leading diverse teams in multiple locations
• Demonstrated outstanding organization and time management skills
• Critical thinker and excellent problem-solving ability used to achieve goals and objectives
• Ability to concurrently manage multiple tasks and effectively plan for and handle shifting priorities in a dynamic work environment
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with all levels both verbally and written
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence a team of cross-departmental members to achieve consensus and desired results
• Focused on the future; demonstrated ability to lead strategy development and execution
