Responsibilities and Qualifications
The Sr Director, Product Development – BLACKHAWK, will act as a product General Manager to develop a three year product development roadmap for his/her portfolio of brands, heavily influenced by brand-right product development and consumer insights. This individual will use masterful brand-right product development that will result in new products driving 25% of revenue. Adept at influencing, this individual will ensure resourcing across operations, commercialization, digital, supply, and marketing teams around the globe.
Key Measures of Success include:
• Build a robust product roadmap, including establishing a cadence for product extensions, upgrades of existing products, and new-to-market products
• Formulate a three year product roadmap, utilizing strong product management skills to execute against budget and timeline requirements
• Blend a mix of consumer insights / trends to best pinpoint resources in product development while not inhibiting pace of innovation
• Create an environment of innovation by identifying new technologies, from connected product to best in class product enhancements
• Carefully manage product P&L through lean design principles and disciplined project management, ensuring margin enhancement
• Integrate the product and innovation dimensions into the fabric of the company; develop and cultivate essential working relationships between sales, marketing, and engineering
Refine and build the consumer experience:
• Incite excitement in the sales organization
• Act as the voice of product and brand in the company at line reviews with major retail accounts
• Instill organization with a passion for consumer-oriented innovation; manage a SKU-intensive portfolio with constant launches while funneling key resources to larger brand-building product launches
• Monitor customer, market, and competitor activity and provide feedback to company’s leadership team
Be accountable for results:
• Bridge the gap between reports in brand, product management, and engineering – leverage strengths of the group while holding it accountable to on-time and on-budget launches and seamless execution that defy silos
• Establish tangible goals and priorities; create the focal points for measuring performance
• Take responsibility for meeting/exceeding agreed upon targets
Contribute to company management:
• Partner with the President and senior management team to assist in the delivery of financial results
• Demonstrate an ability to grow within the organization and play a major part in succession planning
• View talent as an imperative, looking for opportunities to hire and develop individuals who fit into the DNA of the organization
The Person
–Qualifications and Experience
• A demonstrated track record of growth and innovation in a portfolio of multiple brands
• Has a solid grasp of consumer / product marketing and consumer insights / trends, but blends it with fast moving instinct on core consumer to drive sales and ensure that right products are commercialized and unmet consumer needs are met
• Practiced liaison between operations and commercialization teams, with the discipline to recommend and deliver a profitable product on time and on budget
• P&L experience with a clear understanding of margin generation, sales, and operating numbers for his / her portfolio
• Early engineering or product marketing experience dealing with consumer durables products preferred, coupled with a keen understanding of general management principles, stage gate, and go-to-market strategies
• Experience in engineered consumer products, with some exposure to successfully developing and launching connected product would be an asset
• Early experience in an academy company known for best practice brand management and product discipline would be considered a plus
• Proven ability to influence in a matrixed environment while directly leading a team of direct reports.
• 10 years of product development experience with proven results
• 5+ years in a leadership role
