Job Summary:
The Medical Director HDSG will help shape the HDSG vision, mission, and core values and provide support and direction to the HDSG verticals, Clinical Terminology, Clinical & Economic Research, Clinical Strategy & Value-Based Care, Regulatory & Government Affairs, and Government Sales & Business Development in the infusion of current healthcare trends and principles (e.g. quality of care and population health management and measures) for existing and future HDSG efforts. This position will provide strategic and continuous process improvement oversight to increase innovation and quality and reduce risks and costs. The HDSG Medical Director will support the development of a cross-divisional clinical strategy for 3M HIS tools and solutions in value-based care. This will require cross-functional coordination with the product teams, clinical subject matter experts to help re-position 3M solutions to CMOs, CMIOs, CEOs of health systems, payers and Medicaid programs while meeting their needs for quality, compliance, and outcome and performance improvement. The position will support the sales of our solutions to clinical provider and payer audiences by participating in sales strategy meetings for a specific client or prospect, attending sales calls and following up with consulting and sales teams as needed.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government, or military environments to a 3M career.
Primary Responsibilities
include but are not limited to the following:
• Learn the details of our solutions and their foundational components in order to contribute to developing, implementing and improving our clinical strategy across 3M HIS.
• Effectively communicate HDSG clinical vision and strategy internally and externally.
• Develop, outline and refine our objectives to build out clinical components of our tools that meet our clinical audiences' needs.
• Educate users on how best to implement outputs from our tools and analytics.
• Participate in sales strategy meetings and sales call for prospects and current clients, working with the sales team and current clinical team involved in the sales process.
• Provide subject matter expertise in our methodologies and products that incorporate them; contribute to white papers, blogs and written articles promoting our expertise, research, and solutions
• Provide subject matter expertise via consultation and stakeholder education to support DRE adoption, including 3M HIS methodologies, prospective payment, performance reporting, paying-for-outcomes
• Publish articles, blogs, and comments on classification related issues as well as rebottles to articles
• Assist with analytics and development of quality measures for new payment models (value based/risk-based payment structures) at state and national levels
• Keep abreast of emerging models in health care delivery; identify and define new and innovative strategies to achieve business goals and objectives
• Identify opportunities to collaborate and develop clinical opportunities with the executive team and other health delivery systems to achieve affordable outcomes
• Engage in business development opportunities to include presenting 3M HIS business and clinical capabilities to business partners, Medicaid/Medicare (CMS) in addition to officers in key accounts
• Provide clinical guidance, support, and education to the organization
• Promote collaboration with both internal and external healthcare team members; develop close professional working relationships in academia, governmental, and non-governmental healthcare organizations throughout the U.S. and the world
• Develop and implement strategic goals related to the quality improvement, management programs, and accreditation standards
• Support Voice of Customer inputs and unify into a coherent clinical strategy
• Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards.

Basic Qualifications:
• Possess a Doctorate of Medicine (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
• Minimum of ten (10) years (post-residency and fellowship) of combined work experience in the provider and/or payer sectors in one or more of the following positions - medical director, head of quality, head of analytics, clinical documentation improvement, clinical informatics, health information technology, health services research - in a private, public, government or military environment
• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional post-residency experience in direct patient care in a private, public, government or military environment
• Experience in operating a hospital or clinic in a private, public, government or military environment
This position will require:
• Travel 50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master Degree in Health Sciences or Healthcare Administration or similar major from an accredited college or university
• Experience in health data analytics, health policy, clinical quality metrics, health informatics, health technology and innovation
• Innovation improvement of patient costs, quality of care, removal of waste, fraud or abuse
• Work with leading health organizations, government health agencies, offices or departments
• Military, Department of Veteran's Affairs, or Veteran's Health Administration Experience
• Familiarity with patient classification methodologies
• Familiarity with care pathways and clinical decision support
• Familiarity with protocols for outcomes
• Understanding quality payment implications with classification models
• Recent experience in medical practice
• Possesses a network of specialist contacts
• Familiar with managing panels of physicians (TAP)
• Knowledge of inpatient/outpatient/population health: Drugs, Functional status, Mental health, SES/SDOH
• Articulate, detail-oriented leader able to present at local, state and national levels
• Review statistical analysis/clinical research, claims data
• Understands systems design
• Interest in quality management/care outcomes measurement
• Interest in patient engagement
• Excellent writing skills, communication skills, presentation skills with experience at national conferences
