Overall Job Summary
The Dir – Continuous Improvement provides overall direction and coordination for all operational activities toward the achievement of environmental/health/safety objectives, business growth and profit, customer satisfaction, and superior quality. This position’s responsibility includes all aspects of operations improvement, focusing on developing and executing strategies and establishing a vision that leads to operational excellence through application and utilization of world-class lean manufacturing principles.
Job Responsibilities
• Applies the Matthews Management System (MMS) tools and frameworks to drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and delivery; create and sustain value in all aspects of operations.
• Plans and executes strategies necessary for the growth and successful ongoing operation of the business.
• Champions the implementation of a best-in-class environmental, health, and safety infrastructure.
• Optimizes process, talent and throughput, ensuring the production of a correct, quality product on-time, every time.
• Maintains facilities and manufacturing process in accordance with all laws, regulations, and company policies pertaining to environmental, personnel, safety and policy concerns including appropriate employee training and indoctrination.
• Optimizes work flow to achieve maximum efficiency while meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Reduces variability in process and customer experience to foster customer satisfaction and confidence.
• Supports the development of a culture which places safety first and is quality sensitive, process driven & aligned with continuous improvement.
• Defines and implements improvements/changes/additions to facilities layout, equipment selection, software selection and materials utilization.
• Coordinates with the Quality Assurance personnel on matters concerning the maintenance and improvement of materials, processes and product quality.
• Assesses and assists in upgrading the management talent base within operations to achieve growth and meet market needs.
• Coordinates needed support to operations areas through intradepartmental interface for smooth workflow and cost-efficient product or service.
• Contributes to the overall short- and long-range planning process and in the establishment and assessment of the organization's annual operating budget.
• Ensures attainment of efficient and economical performance in relation to profit and year-end goals.
• Participates in the investigation and implementation of new services, manufacturing processes, and product or systems technologies to meet the organization's objectives.
• Establishes, implements, revises, and maintains policies and procedures related to operations.
• Upholds world class maintenance & reliability practices to ensure safe and optimal asset utilization.
• Analyzes operations and needs to determine potential enhancements or improvements to facilities operational procedures and activities.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished. Mentors, coaches, trains and develops team.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or closely related field
• Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred
• 10+ years progressive operations management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including progressive responsibility for plant management. Multiple site experience/responsibility highly desired.
• Experience in engineered product and/or heavy industry manufacturing highly preferred
• 6+ years in an operations and continuous improvement leadership role (direct or indirect)
• Deep expertise and applications/implementation experience in lean manufacturing, six sigma, and related continuous improvement frameworks required. Certification is desired.
• Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
• High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
• Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
