Primary Function
Overview:
Recent technical innovation in the areas of supply chain and manufacturing are driving rapid change and represents significant potential value to global manufacturing organizations. Whether exploring the application of IIoT, machine learning to business processes, or supporting the deployment of SAP to recent acquisitions, the role of operations lead at A. O. Smith is critical to organizational growth and gains through process efficiency improvements. In this role, you will work closely with operations leadership to understand their strategy and vision, helping to create and execute against target state roadmaps where technology can be utilized to drive success. In addition to leadership engagement and organizational collaboration, you will lead and develop a team of talented process and technical experts to deploy business solutions.
Key to success in this role is engagement and integration with other business process areas. On one end, the candidate should be able to engage with business units, understand their requirements, identify and execute process standardization and harmonization opportunities, model and govern business process design. On the other end, the candidate should be able to integrate Master Data Management, ERP, and Business transformation teams to effectively implement business requirements.
While your focus will be on leadership of the operations team, this role will present you with the opportunity to learn about end-to-end business processes at a global, multi-billion dollar manufacturing organization. To be successful, it is expected that you contribute and engage with areas outside of operations to build an overall, integrated view of how you can help A. O. Smith continue its growth. This role provides a unique chance to develop outside of your core areas of strength and will require a dynamic approach to your daily leadership activities.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
1. Manage and engage operations team to support successful execution of project and roadmap activities
2. Regular sponsor and stakeholder engagement to provide timeline updates and review business requirements
3. Deep understanding of A. O. Smith business processes and strategy obtained through collaboration with key stakeholders and process owners
4. In-depth knowledge of operations related business processes including manufacturing engineering (e.g. bill of materials, routing, work centers), supply chain (e.g. production and demand planning, forecasting, scheduling, transportation management, distribution, procurement), and manufacturing shop floor execution (e.g. quality management, preventative maintenance, production activities)
5. Strong understanding of integration between operations and other business process areas, including customer engagement, engineering and finance,
6. Development and guidance of the operations team to support growth and high performance
7. Support the creation of target state roadmaps to guide long-term operations process vision & execution
8. Participation in project governance activities; interaction with auditors
9. Engagement with daily production support activities to ensure users are receiving the business systems assistance they need to be successful
10. Working with cross-functional project teams to include operations requirements in broader project scope
11. Identification and definition of end-to-end process related to operations activities
12. Ensuring team adherence and execution of testing governance for operations processes
13. Interface with business owners to implement operations business process standardization across the entire company
14. Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and quality gates to track the progress of projects
15. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree (Business or Logistics preferred)
• 5+ years of functional/configuration experience in SAP (Operations process related)
• A broad end to end process acumen of the Operations Value Stream and the process requirements that drive accuracy, efficiency and leverage with the supply base
• Strong understanding of SAP data elements associated with Operations processes
◦ 1 life cycle implementation of SAP ECC in the role of Operations Lead strongly preferred
• Deep understanding of process integration points within ECC
• Experience in leading and facilitating client workshops, interviews, etc. with multiple levels of an organization in a distributed environment (participants in multiple locations)
• Proven track record as a strong communicator and trainer; effective in matrix management, team building and communications
◦ Experience supporting manufacturing plant personnel with day-to-day ERP system processes
• Flexibility, adaptability, and process improvement approach.
◦ Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint
