Overview
SleepIQ LABS is a subsidiary of Sleep Number Corporation which owns and operates all entities under the Sleep Number and SleepIQ technology brands. SleepIQ LABS is the pioneer of biometric sensor solutions and sleep monitoring technologies and was acquired by Sleep Number in 2015.
We collect over 7 billion biometric data points a night, and we have the most comprehensive sleep data base in the market. Sleep Number is looking for a leader who understands consumer and health data to deliver world class sleep experiences for our customers ranging from wellness to health-related data products and services.
In this role, you will be responsible for leveraging big data to commercialize data as a product on behalf of the Sleep Number and SleepIQ brands. This will begin with shaping the data product strategy from core to transformational opportunities: ultimately this is about empowering business decisions that deliver world-class, personalized sleep experiences for our customers in Sleep Number applications, using data as a service either in subscription models as well interoperability for strategic partnerships on behalf of the Sleep Number brand.
Data driven insights and recommendations will be a leading factor in prioritizing, developing and launching innovative products and experiences that drive customer engagement, customer satisfaction and business growth. You will have the opportunity to optimize our company performance through our data value chain and data strategy by building customer products and experiences that are data driven, agile, accurate and predictive.
You will work collectively with key groups across the organization, especially engineering, consumer product management/ development and product brand management to ideate, develop and deliver exceptional data analytics, insights and data driven models. These analytics and models will provide keen insights into how individual and aggregate sleep and environmental related data points influence sleep quality growing Sleep Numbers leadership position. Moreover, this person will determine how, when and which data analytics, insights and visualizations should be communicated to our customers in a simple, educational and timely fashion through creative storytelling and engagement. Your strategic and executional leadership will be essential in advancing SleepIQ’s data strategy with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of our customers through enhanced sleep quality.
Responsibilities
• Develop our data strategy by identifying business and monetization opportunities to enhance and complement Sleep Number’s leadership position in sleep innovation with SleepIQ technology, including a strong ability to set data vision, strategy and business cases which include profitable business cases with expedient ROI assessment of data costs for the product strategy and strong perceptual acuity to determine where to win and at what pace.
• Analyze large scale structured and unstructured data, develop machine learning models and build predictive analytics models to drive user engagement and education and improve sleep quality through the Sleep Number suite of products and experiences
• Design, execute and analyze experiments to test new product ideas and translate respective results into actionable recommendations by crafting compelling stories, making logical recommendations and driving informed actions
• Define strategic definition of SleepIQ platform key performance metrics and operationalize to influence company and or partnership touch points.
• Use historical data together with matching techniques to develop machine learning and personalized artificial intelligence models to provide high-quality, personalized, in-product recommendations and insights for our customers
• Directly partner with Engineering on ideation, concepting, scope definition, execution and delivery, provide technical perspective as required.
• Collaborate with cross-functional leaders across the organization to identify and solve operational and execution issues
• Ensure the team’s priorities are in support of the product roadmap
• Quarterly travel required, including both domestic and some international, to collaborate with colleagues and customers around the world
Qualifications
• Experience using data to identify which user characteristics or behaviors are correlated with certain desired outcomes by using data regression and clustering techniques to discover relationships
• Broad knowledge of the most current data analytics tools, techniques and thinking to identify opportunities
• Focus on data-driven decision making and learning by experimentation
• Experience with machine learning or optimization modeling and know how to create visualizations in order to tell a story
• Designing and executing strategies that converge business and technology for the benefit of increased revenue, margin and optimal customer experience
• Strong track record of delivering complex, high value deliverables through organizational change, development, market analysis, product and program management
• Ability to leverage the voice of the business and customers and identify the largest impact while building passionate high performing teams
• 10+ years of using technology in a quantitative discipline (e.g. informatics, engineering, applied mathematics, etc.)
• Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mathematics
• Background in healthcare preferred, but not required
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
• Passionate about the business and product problems to be solved and using high-precision data analytics and models that contribute useful insights and customer value
• Strong understanding of probability & statistics, and/or machine learning, and algorithms
• Keen ability to work collectively with engineering and product managers to understand and translate data-driven initiatives and potential ideas into fully developed customer and partner solutions and experiences
• Exceptional problem solving, critical reasoning and creative thinking and skills. Ability to identify core and edge cases, and dependencies in any scenario
• Experience with identifying and resolving issues working with disparate sources of data and data quality
• Exceptional communication skills and an ability to connect people with different points of view and with varying levels of experience
• Experienced in translating ideas into specific qualified and quantified action items. Ability to develop detailed plans with specific goals, priorities, timelines and budgets to effectuate ideas into products
