Job Description
Position: Director Portfolio Management
Reports to: Vice President: Portfolio Management
Position Statement:To plan, organize, monitor and prioritize assigned supplier programs to achieve corporate and supplier objectives for all channels of trade while communicating effectively to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
Planning
Director Portfolio Management is expected to plan their own time and activities to ensure achievement of company and supplier sales and objectives by:
• Plan and build with assigned suppliers effective programming that will insure market share growth, supplier goal attainment and achieve annual revenue and gross profit goals in all channels of trade
• Prioritize monthly activities based on Youngs Company standards.
• Have knowledge, insight, and understanding of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; and the ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
• Work with Directors of pricing to build and maintain effective pricing programs while staying within margin guidelines
• Manage responsible use of supplier LMF's in building market relevant programs
• Establish brand priorities on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
• Report directly to VP Portfolio Management all sales plans and programs
• Build and maintain working relationships with assigned suppliers
• Development of year long program calendars to include all channels of trade
• Communicate inventory needs in order to achieve agreed upon sales results for all programs
Organizing
Director of Portfolio Management is expected to organize and facilitate with assigned suppliers ways of working in order to build company and supplier objectives by:
• Educate suppliers on Youngs procedures and planning templates + timelines.
• Organize with assigned suppliers programming meetings as needed
• Facilitate the organization of all reports needed for effective supplier review meetings, tracking of programs, KPI's
• Establish monthly and Tertile supplier presentations
• Vet and prioritize all supplier programs for relevance to all channels of trade insuring clear focus on priority brands for implementation and execution by the sales teams
Directing
Director of Portfolio Management is expected to build the business plan to achieve financial objectives for assigned supplier in all channels of trade by:
• Setting objectives and agenda, generate allegiance to those objectives
• Establishment priorities while maintaining brand standards.
• Maintain and enhance existing ways of working and procedures
• Monitor supplier brand sales in order to achieve targeted results
• Monitor price survey's on monthly basis to insure brand alignment to competitive set
• Coordinate the utilization of supplier LMF, POS and expense budgets in order to build market relevant programs
Communicating
Director of Portfolio Management is required to serve as information resources for assigned suppliers and VP Portfolio Management by:
• Establishing and maintaining productive supplier relationships.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with all departments to include, sales/execution, pricing and procurement
• Communicating all sales issues and opportunities for their respective area of responsibility to VP of Portfolio Management and SVP Planning/Analysis
• Coordinate recaps of Portfolio Director's supplier meetings to upper management
Requirements
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in the Wine & Spirits industry.
◦ At least 3 years On Premise experience.
◦ At least 3 years Off Premise experience.
• Proficiency in marketing and planning for Wine and Spirits commodities.
• Proficiency in marketing and planning for On and Off Premise channels.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: The position requires the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. This position also requires the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Lastly, this position will require the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and clients.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: This position must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, as well as the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: This position will require the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited and minimal standardization exists. The position will also require the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Skills/Abilities:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) environment.
• Proven track record developing and managing programs that delivered results.
• Strong knowledge of supplier and distribution tiers of the Wine & Spirits industry.
• An orientation for action and a penchant for ensuring details are handled
