We are looking for a tax accounting and compliance expert and leader to join the great tax team. This role will be based in Boston at Sonos’ office in vibrant Downtown Crossing.
Under the direction of the Vice President of Global Tax, this role will drive the tax accounting and compliance aspects of Sonos’ tax strategy. Our environment is fun and fast-paced and we are a constantly adapting team.
A successful candidate will have strong tax technical ability, solid business acumen, and a proven track record of building strong business partner relationships. You will work directly with members of our regional business teams and global functional groups. This position will require you to roll up your sleeves and know the details of our global tax accounting and compliance. You will work with two great team members in an environment that promotes empowered decision making along with collaboration and transparency. We are a small but fantastic team.

What You’ll Do
• Prepare and document the interim and annual global tax provision in accordance with ASC740.
◦ Prepare quarterly and annual plan global ETR and cash tax forecasts which includes coordinating legal entity forecasts with FPA team – report out to senior management
◦ Prepare/review global annual tax provisions including the documentation of all permanent and temporary items, prepare/review return to provision calculations
◦ Oversee the preparation of US federal and state research credits;
◦ Assess the tax reporting and accounting impacts of possible or pending global changes in tax law
◦ Working with the local finance teams, ensure all non-US tax provisions are prepared in accordance with US GAAP; including the review of US GAAP to statutory reconciliations
◦ Research and document tax positions under ASC 740-10 (FIN48);
◦ Assess the requirement for valuation allowance for all deferred tax assets;
◦ Review the reconciliation of all tax related balance sheet accounts including payable, prepaid, deferred tax assets and liabilities;
◦ Prepare consolidated financial statement income tax disclosures;
◦ Implement SOX 404 controls including updates to controls and monitoring compliance on a quarterly basis
◦ Coordinate walkthroughs and review of effectiveness of income tax control environment
◦ Primary contact with Sonos’ external audit firm for all tax related matters;
◦ Key advisor on recommendations related to insourced or outsourced compliance model including process tools to improve compliance efficiency
◦ Lead contact on all tax matters related to implementation of new ERP system, including an assessment and recommendation of tax provision tool
• Ensure the accurate and timely filing of all global income tax returns with direct responsibility for the following-
◦ Completion of federal form 1120 and all state income tax returns
◦ Review all domestic tax disclosures and coordination of international reporting
◦ Prepare accounting method changes as required
◦ Responsible for the contemporaneous documentation of federal and state R&E credits
◦ Prepare necessary §382 loss limitation analysis
◦ Managing global income tax calendar to ensure all international income tax returns are completed accurately and timely filed.
• With the Director of International Tax, coordinate the reporting of all US international compliance including but not limited to:
◦ Earnings and profits calculations
◦ Subpart F and other deemed income inclusion analysis
◦ US FTC
◦ GILTI/BEAT and FDII
• Oversee the preparation of federal and state estimated payment calculations
• Oversee the assessment of state nexus positions
• Manage all aspects of federal and state income tax audits
• Maintain knowledge of existing and proposed federal and state tax law and regulations to proactively raise planning opportunities
• Ensure Sonos’ tax attributes are benefitted to the fullest extent allowed under federal and state tax laws and regulation
Skills You’ll Need
• BS in Accounting, CPA and or MST preferred
• 8-10 years’ corporate tax experience in industry or public accounting including 5 years in a multinational publicly traded company
• Leadership and management experience. A team player with ability and desire to roll up their sleeves and contribute to the growing global tax function.
• Strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills
• Intense attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast paced and dynamic environment with a high degree of personal accountability
• Self-starter - demonstrating high energy/creativity and entrepreneurial spirit
