Job Summary
Member of the Sales Strategies and Capabilities Leadership team and responsible for setting strategy and key priorities for the delivery of best-in-class category growth solutions, assortment and shelving standards across the retail customer base. Work with and ensure strong linkages and coordination among the customer, customer teams, customer strategic planning, brand management and category leadership to support the strategic direction and development of product and program innovation and value through customer and consumer driven insights. Build strong diverse teams through effective talent management while championing cross-functional talent movement. Provide vision and mission to the category leadership/strategy team that motivates team to enhance skills, reach beyond current output level and allows for a balance of work, life and learning.
Position Responsibilities
• Build a strategic vision and gain alignment in setting key priorities across customer-facing and internal teams that are aligned to current and future category trends
• Develop strategic plans by synthesizing data and insights into actionable sales-ready presentations utilizing cross functional collaboration to grow both retailers/customers categories
• Communicate plans and priorities to team to ensure focus and progress toward department and company goals
• Utilize strong business, financial and P/L management that deliver company and customer growth expectations
• Build best practice sharing methodology internally and externally; champion learning across team with clear communication of key business needs and trends
• Proactive ownership to respond to retailers objections/areas of opportunities while strategically delivering company growth goals
• Lead team initiatives that drive impact in cross-functional areas such as Sales, Brand, and other key functions
• Translate business strategies into category plans utilizing analytics, benchmarking, and insights to consistently deliver quality business results
• Work in partnership with sales to forge new direct relationships with customers and jointly support agreed ideas and ensure execution across customer base
• Build strong diverse teams through effective talent management while sponsoring talent movement throughout the organization
• Partner closely with internal leaders in brand, innovation, marketing and Customer Strategy & Planning to ensure clear view of the retail impact of initiatives
• Develop new tools and capabilities that support company goals and add value to customers
• Work effectively with sales, brand marketing, shopper marketing and insights to develop innovative and impactful category initiatives
• Assist the sales team with category long range planning with customers
• Improve field sales capability to leverage analytics and insights
• Partner with sales leadership to ensure resources are allocated appropriately and aligned to priorities
• Monitor industry trends and competitive activity to identify opportunities to improve capabilities/advantage in the market.
• Develop strategy for customer and syndicated data to ensure efficiency and return on investment (ROI) while meeting budget allocation
Position Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required with 12-15 years of progressive Category Leadership experience in the consumer packaged goods industry
• Proven strong leadership ability - must be able to develop, communicate and get buy in from category leadership team of team vision, mission and execution of those
• Must have a history of creating positive entrepreneurial culture
• Direct experience interacting with and selling to senior management of key customers
• Possesses strong influence management skills: setting agenda across the organization and influencing indirect resources
• Established strong analytical skills, leveraging industry knowledge to drive action with our leadership and customers
• Verified expertise in communication – be clear, concise and impactful
• Strong data integration & interpretation experience – be highly effective in telling the story through data
• Problem solving skills are essential – creative thinking, think past the obvious, think laterally and vertically
• Demonstrated analytical curiosity and critical thinking skills
• Proven proactivity and have the ability to see opportunities on the horizon
• Be a strong project manager – establish objectives, process, roles, timeline and desired outcome
• Must possess solid knowledge of computers, MS Office Suite, Nielsen/IRI, customer scanner and loyalty card data, space management tools, spreadsheets, databases, panel data including geo-demographic and behavioral data
• Strong working knowledge and application of Data Analytics and Consumer insights
• Demonstrated ability to work in a highly matrixed environment and collaborate with various cross functional areas
• Show well-developed organizational, communication and time management skills
• Ability to multi task and prioritize/manage multiple initiatives at once
