Job Description:
The Director of Manufacturing has responsibility for all manufacturing operations activities related to their business unit, providing leadership in a way that meets and exceeds functional and business unit results expectations. This includes the management of the relationship with copacker network assigned to the Manufacturing Director. He/she will have responsibility for coordinating all manufacturing, engineering, technical support and supply related customer service activities for the business units and be directly accountable for all related manufacturing operations results through the use of KPI’s. He/she will provide key leadership to cross-functional business unit teams and efforts while ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of projects.
Job Duties:
Develops and implements manufacturing and supply chain strategies that are aligned with the business unit and overall B&G business strategies. This includes sourcing recommendations and contract manufacturing relationship management. Actively involved in contract negotiations with co packers including volumes, service levels, and terms.
Develops goals and objectives that support operational strategies, while promoting a balanced approach to, safety, quality production capability, customer service, and cost, working capital and work environment.
Develops and coordinates all manufacturing related support activities.
Develops and implements comprehensive systems and work processes across manufacturing and supply chain operations that drive improved business results.
Responsible as the primary resource on manufacturing and operational matters for the business units including, but not limited to, new product and package development, manufacturing operations improvements, operations finite scheduling and capacity planning.
Works with plants and engineering to develop Capital Plans for the business units. Drives accountability and execution of capital plans.
Formulates and implements key performance measures to improve safety, quality, cost, service, and work environment goals and objectives.
Conducts regular reviews to continuous improve results and plans against key performance indicators; adjusts action plans as needed.
Works with Unions, where applicable, to develop and strengthen the relationship to meet performance/production goals. Works with internal and external resources as required resolving grievances and labor disputes. Acts as a lead along with the HR Operations Director during labor contract negotiations to effectively secure labor contacts in applicable locations.
Ensures manufacturing sites are properly staffed and organized with high quality individuals who share B&G values for excellence in manufacturing. Ensures Co Manufacturing Capabilities meet requirements and standards.
Develops and improves individual and organizational skills and capabilities. Maintaining a current succession plan for his/her organization.
Resolves issues and develops and implements systematic business process changes to prevent future issues.
Works with plant’s business units to develop and deliver capital projects, operating budgets, new products and packages, and cost reduction programs.
Provides leadership for development and implementation of manufacturing best practices across the organization.
Provides key leadership to business unit S&OP processes.
Shall communicate and report any and all food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
Partner with the Quality organization to drive initiatives to improve safety and quality of the products, whether that is process improvements, capital investments, training, ect.
Shall be responsible for enforcing cGMP’s.
In Manufacturing Director’s absence, this position shall be covered by one of the Manufacturing Director’s or another person designated.
The Manufacturing Director may have a specific cross functional network responsibility assigned. These Cross Network responsibilities include but are not limited to, Corporate Engineering and Capital Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Continuous Improvement, Commercialization and Co Packer Process Development.
Experience, Skills, Education:
7-10 years broad experience in plant and manufacturing and supply chain
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
Operations with major consumer products company (food or drug preferred) required
Prior Large plant management experience required, multi-site management a plus
Senior level cross-functional business leadership highly preferred
Expertise in modern manufacturing operations and technical methodologies including TPM, CIL's, Lean Manufacturing, SQF, Food/Drug GMP's, etc. required
SQF Certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 18 months of hire date
HACCP Certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 18 months of hire date
Ability to navigate systems including the Microsoft Office Suite, and an ERP (JD Edwards preferred) required
