Altria Client Services’ role is to provide high quality services to the Altria family of companies. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Associate Buyer to join our Domestic Leaf Procurement department in Richmond, VA.
The successful candidate will be responsible for grading and purchasing tobacco to support PMUSA product requirements.
Specific accountabilities include:
• Conduct receiving station direct contract purchase activities:
◦ Execute check-in and contract requirements review
◦ Assign correct stalk position and quality
◦ Execute quality control activities (CPA sampling, NTRM Search, calibrations)
◦ Monitor shipping
◦ Complete all required documentation and records management requirements
• Executing receiving station start-up and shutdown activities including:
◦ Equipment calibration and inventory management
◦ Order buying and office material
◦ Start-up scheduling
• Support Leaf Utilization and International Leaf Procurement activities as assigned.
• Provide project support as assigned.
Specific Skills
Qualifications include:
• Bachelor's degree preferred and/or equivalent experience (>5 years of experience buying tobacco).
• Advanced knowledge of tobacco grades, grading standards and quality requirements.
• Strong interpersonal communication and conflict management skills. The ability to effectively communicate company expectations/requirements of the TLP Program. The ability to actively listen to stakeholder concerns and appropriately communicate pertinent information.
• Capability to use computer systems to execute buying and contract management activities.
• General knowledge of receiving station buying activities.
• Working knowledge of tobacco related contracting and buying processes.
• Ability to work in extreme hot, cold and dusty conditions and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to travel 90% of the time.
• Capability to distinguish colors, textures and aroma in order to determine leaf grades, stalk positions and quality.
• A valid driver's license.
