Position Title:Director of Operations
Reports to:Global VP of Supply Chain
Location:Winchester, VA
Job Summary:
The Director of Operations is responsible for strategic and operational planning for product and segment operations and supply chain functions. This job establishes strategy and prepares, approves, and ensures adherence to budgetary goals for multiple facilities. He/She interfaces with manufacturing/supply chain functions to direct the achievement of KPI’s (i.e., equipment performance, waste, cost, product quality, safety and operational plan goal attainment) and champions’ continuous improvement/Opex processes and cost-savings projects.
Manufacturing, Distribution, Shipping, Receiving, Inventory Control, Warehousing, Engineering, Quality/Opex, Materials, Technical Support, Facilities Engineering and/or Safety management and senior management level positions can report to this position. (Manager – Salaried/Exempt)
The Director of Operations has Executive level authority. Makes significant business function / facility-location decisions that have a great impact globally on the projects that the business(s) works on, how work is completed within the business(s), or direction taken by the business(s). Makes and approves people resource decisions to hire, promote, and fire employees. Makes and/or deviates from management policies or operating practices when necessary to meet organizational objectives.
Job Duties:
• 30% Create strategy and monitor daily operations and/or supply chain performance to achieve KPI’s and objectives and support new product development
• 25% Champion productivity programs to reduce cost/labor spend, drive manufacturing process standardization and improve employee performance
• 25% Direct budget, funding and delivery for financial goals
• 20% Provide product/segment level leadership, coaching and staff development
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Operations Management, Business/Finance or equivalent
• 10+ Manufacturing Engineering within a manufacturing environment
• 7 +Operations and/or Distribution team leadership – managerial level
• 7 + Strategic initiatives design and financial modeling/capital appropriation
• 5 + Lean/Six sigma; 6S, S& OP project leadership
• Working knowledge of Supply Chain processes (production planning, purchasing, inventory management, warehousing, materials management, and transportation/logistics)
Preferred Qualifications:
• MBA
• Program management for continuous improvement projects
• Capable of creating high-level, operational status reports and presenting to Operations Management
• Expert level employee leadership and staff development skills
• Capable of breaking down corporate goals into functional KPI’s and objectives and presenting them effectively at each stakeholder level
• Leadership of and ensure compliance to Company and Governmental safety standards, policies and procedures by staff and outside vendors
• Advanced project management skills
• Advanced Financial Modeling and budget creation and adherence - $400million or more
• Advanced knowledge of operational excellence/Lean processes and performance improvement tools (Kaizen, 5S, etc)
• Advanced analytical skills in data mining and metrics creation
• Intermediate computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and SAP
• Six sigma certification
