Clinical Innovation Program Director
In this role, you have the opportunity to
To develop and lead innovation partnerships with strategic partners in North America that are committed to applied and scalable innovation. These efforts will result in measurable and material improvements in our mission to improve healthcare. This will be done through driving the effectiveness of the innovation partnerships and partner management, coordinating all ongoing development and innovation projects within the partnerships, coordinating business support and alignment with solution teams and health system business units necessary to identify and implement solutions.
You are responsible for
• Establishing relationships with senior-level hospital/healthcare system officials to identify areas of strategic importance between the hospital/healthcare system and Philips.
• Act as a link between businesses, Philips Research, and the hospital/health care system to develop these areas of importance in a mutually beneficial fashion.
• Cultivate relationships with external ecosystems for co-creation where applicable.
• To drive outside–in innovations of products, services, business models and solutions while using the partnership’s assets.
• To demonstrate measurable impacts of innovation possible through tight-knit collaboration and alignment of objectives.
• Facilitate ideation phases together with the customer’s innovation resources.
• Provide access to resources within Philips Innovation (R&D, Philips Innovation Services, etc.) and identify landing entities (e.g. business units, 3rds).
• Work towards mutual project agreements and funding.
• Implement and project manage throughout mutual innovation phases
• Define the source and amount of funding available for specific projects and assure alignment around funding between all partners prior to project start.
• Work with our Research Program management team and the Clinical Research Board (CRB) leadership to create and optimize a continuous funnel of high quality projects with a focus on co-creation and rapid prototyping of new scalable solution platforms.
• Engage businesses and solution teams to support transfer of results back into the organization.
• Provide leadership in prioritizing projects and in establishing the facts and details of inventions and technical reports (in collaboration with Philips’ Intellectual Property and Standards).
• Representation of projects on a design level (e.g. spokesperson role to the funding agency or collaborators).
• Author of and support to the writing and presenting of the grant applications for public assistance agencies.
• Confirm clinical projects are implemented according to international guidelines and regulations, documentations are in place. Ensure MRA or JDA compliance where applicable.
• Evaluate the current market value of projects, budgets and administration.
• Ensure that CRB Research projects in Philips’ project portal(s)
• Ensure that all projects are appropriately reviewed and approved by the appropriate Institutional Review Board - IRB and have Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) approval where necessary to facilitate the program.
You are a part of
The Clinical Research Board that reports into the Philips North America Research Organization. We are located at our Innovation Campus in Cambridge Massachusetts. The Philips Research organization includes 1300 scientists collaborating with over 300 universities and clinical partners globally.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
• MD or PhD with a strong clinical and/or biomedical science background required.
• 15+ years of professional experience after advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
• Ability to think 3-5 years ahead of what is available today.
• Substantial exposure to clinical science, across several disease areas.
• Deep clinical insights. Clinical knowledge paired with technical background preferred. Analytical skills to understand unmet needs and ability to handle complexity of solutions.
• In-hospital experience, ideally in several different clinical disciplines.
• Ability to integrate disparate sources of information into a precise strategy.
• Comfortable working with Physicians, Nurses and other clinical providers.
• Business development experience, especially ability to build relationships with senior hospital officials.
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, determination and patience.
• Project and/or Program management skills paired with partner management experience (internal and external).
• Demonstrated entrepreneurship in health tech.
• Leadership and mentoring skills.
• Good communication skills (able to write and present at a high level).
• Willingness to travel 40%
