The Director, Engineering has the primary responsibility for leading major projects with primary focus on CapEx spending control and meeting timelines while achieving the desired scope for critical initiatives. This is a leadership role in a cross-functional team environment, this position will partner with manufacturing, finance, quality assurance, purchasing, safety, R&D and other departments in order to coordinate all phases of engineering. This position will also oversee the maintenance team. The individual in this role must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment. Some travel is also required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with key business partners (e.g. Facilities, Production, Food Safety, Manufacturing, Packaging, Distribution, IT, Quality Assurance, etc.) to lead engineering and maintenance activities, prioritize facility needs and create a forward looking, sustainable engineering and maintenance programs
• Lead strategic capital projects such as plant expansion, utility system upgrade, production line addition, processing system upgrades, etc
• Provide technical expertise regarding assigned functions. Formulate and develop procedures to comply with Food Safety, Organic Integrity and all federal, state and local regulations.
• Complete feasibility studies, plant impact studies, proposed layouts and capital estimates
• Lead a management team responsible for various engineering and maintenance related programs, including interpretation of specifications, blueprints and/or job orders to construct templates and lay out reference points
• Inspect and audit engineering and maintenance projects and activities to ensure quality and compliance.
• Designing equipment configurations and processes to meet manufacturing and personnel needs
• Participate in cross functional team to execute brand initiatives
• Manage budget, expenses and P&L responsibilities effectively
• Work as needed with city/county planning departments and regulatory agencies
• Fully responsible to deliver the desired project scope on time and within budget
• Prepare technical specifications and negotiate and manage contracts for purchase of equipment and supplies, maintenance/service agreements and outsourced labor contracts
• Supervise, develop and evaluate assigned staff. Create a dynamic team focused on quality and ongoing improvement
• Develop and implement long and short-term goals, plans and activities to effectively and efficiently manage the Company’s needs related to engineering and maintenance
Preferred Candidate Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
• BS degree in engineering
• 15 years engineering project management experience in a CPG beverage/food manufacturing.
• Corporate engineering leadership experience
• Experienced in capital project management and implementation
• A deep knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement tools and lean manufacturing.
• Demonstrated history of reliably fulfilling obligations and delivering quality results
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong engineering skills and mechanical/electrical aptitude
• Understanding of building codes, regulatory issues at all governing levels, compliance codes relative to EPA, OSHA, ADA, and NFPA
• Ability to learn new technologies, processes, and business practices
• Schematic and blueprint reading ability
• Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills
• Ability to analyze, compare, and recommend engineering proposals Ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies
• Effective communication and presentation skills
• Excellent planning/organization skills
• Ability to work with deadlines/schedules
• Self starter. Requires minimum supervision
