Position Title: Global Category Director, Sugar
Reports To: VP Directs – Confectionary

Purpose of Role:
Deliver to the Global Confectionary Segment a long-term competitive advantage by achieving maximum value for the business, related to Confectionery’s expenditures for Sugar (total spend is approximately $600m/yr. servicing nearly every site in the Confectionary network). This will be achieved through:
• Owning and Driving the global sugar sourcing strategy to deliver all key business needs from Sustainability to Health and Wellness
• Overall Best in class category management
• The right global category organisation and talent strategy
• Line management of the Global Sugar Team (Four direct reports)
• Getting the most from our supplier network
• Become an industry player in the sugar space.
• Building strong internal key stakeholder networks
Principal Accountabilities:
For the Global Confectionary Segment, lead the continuous improvement and keep live/relevant the category sourcing strategy (approx. $600m/yr.):
• Work with key stakeholders both globally and in the regions to ensure the strategy is meeting the critical business needs and drive its implementation
• Achieve competitive price advantage through expert knowledge of commodity markets and relevant economic factors
• With the Global PRM Lead support and approve market positions and hedging strategies to ‘beat the market’
• Direct buying strategies and supplier negotiations, including the leverage of $600m of spend with suppliers
• Drive materials costs down and deliver cost and cash savings back to the business, annually delivering world class value creation on the spend
• Provide special focus to the delivery of key business benefits, namely:
• Sustainability – Work with the Sugar Sustainability Lead to ensure we deliver our category commitments in sugar that feed into the SIG plan
• H&W – Work with R&D and the CBU’s to understand and support the delivery of the H&W strategy
• Quality – Improve the prominence of Quality in the Sourcing Strategy in conjunction with the Global SQA Sugar Lead
• Accountable for the attraction, development and succession of talent within the sugar team, coupled with supporting the overall directs talent pipeline and associate development. Additionally responsible for team shape amending structure if business needs arise
• Line management responsibility for the Global Sugar Team of three Sr. Strategic Sourcing managers (Americas, APAC and ECIS/MEA) and One Global PRM Lead
• Drive best practice and joint leadership with all Global Category Directors, to enable high performing teams across Global Commercial Confectionery, providing leadership on business, commercial and talent strategy
• Champion the use of internal and external research activity to increase market and supplier knowledge and expertise plus category management best practice. Leverage group knowledge and research to deliver superior decisions

Key Experiences
• 10+ years of experience in large scale strategic procurement
• 5+ years’ experience in managing large teams of buyers, preferably including remote reports
Desired Education
• Bachelors’ degree; MBA preferred in business, economics, supply chain or related discipline
Decision Making Authority and Impact
• How to best procure the $0.6 billion worth of Sugar products: When to buy, how to buy, from whom to buy, for what period of time (coverage and market position), and under what terms and conditions. Direct accountability to deliver ~$25-30m p.a of Value Creation.
• How to best protect Global Confectionery Segment from the approximate +/- $58 million in annual price volatility in Sugar. All decisions around managing price risk and hedging activity. Decisions in this area can significantly affect profit and ROTA and/or cause the business to cut investment spending in order to cover cost pressures
• Forecasting future price trends (market forecasts) and then deciding what positions (i.e. cover) to take in order to beat market and competition
• Prediction of prices, to maximize accuracy and delivery of the business plan and P&L projections
• Decisions around organization design, objective setting, resource allocation and ways of working within the Global Sugar team
• Coaching the global sourcing team to maximize the value creation impact of their strategies and annual sourcing plans
