Responsibilities and Qualifications
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced operations leader for the position of Sr. Director, Operations – Bell & Giro. Reporting to the President and GM of Bell & Giro. This individual will work across the Bell, Giro, Blackburn, Raskullz, Krask, and Copilot brands, and collaborate cross-functionally both within the Bell & Giro business as well as with the broader Vista Outdoor team globally. The Sr. Director, Operations will play the lead role in ensuring flawless execution for all manufacturing, distribution, logistics, sourcing, S&OP, customer service and quality related functions worldwide.
This position provides strategic direction and leadership in all areas supply chain management. The Sr. Director applies a broad and diversified knowledge of operations and inventory management principles and concepts to ensure on time delivery of quality products and continuous improvement of business operations with the intention of supporting the objectives of driving enhanced profitability and working capital performance. They will provide management with key reports, performance metrics, and assist the organization in the execution of on time new product launches.
Essential Functions:
• Develops and reviews operations productivity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining business objectives for both domestic and international operations.
• Create and maintain monthly supply chain and customer service score card.
• Set a vision and clearly articulate our desired customer care and experience management capability. Work with other departments to develop a plan to set that vision in motion including people, process, and technology.
• Performs benchmark studies on our work process and flow, identifying inefficiencies, challenges and bottlenecks. Implements systems to improve and correct any deficiencies discovered.
• Develops and re-engineers operations, processes, practices and procedures to remain competitive and cost effective.
• Direct management activities in the Rantoul distribution center; ensure programs are established and executed to minimize expense, provide work place safety while maintaining high productivity and quality customer service; diagnose operational issues and direct Managers in development of solutions, action plans and communication to resolve those issues. Establishes metrics to measure and track performance.
• Plans and directs implementation and measurement of manufacturing (owned and sourced) initiatives, metrics and goals in accordance with the company’s business objectives.
• Lead S&OP process; ensure inventory levels will meet sales plan as well as corporate inventory objectives to efficiently use working capital. Including management of safety stock levels balancing cost, customer fill rates, SKU productivity, and management objectives as well as identifying potential inventory shortfall and/or overage early and fast.
• Plans, prioritizes and budgets all operations related activities in support of all business planning processes.
• Communicates operations related information and issues to other functional area leaders including Brand Management, R&D, Human Resources, Finance, Sales and Marketing, as required.
• Creates plans for the most effective use of workforce, materials, inventory and equipment to meet customer requirements and company objectives.
• Supports safety initiatives per company policies and procedures.
• Manages the operations management staff in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable laws.
• Responsible for training and developing associates, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, disciplining, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Leads by example.
Education and Training:
• Bachelor’s Degree Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, or Business required. MBA preferred.
• 10+ years related experience in manufacturing and production-related areas with a minimum of five (5) years in a manufacturing management role.
• Minimum five to seven (5-7) years’ experience in developing and implementing operations related initiatives, preferably in the consumer products or sporting goods industry.
• Demonstrated history of achievement in a consumer-driven, manufacturing operations environment.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of lean practices as well as S&OP and manufacturing processes.
• Strong proficiency in MS applications primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• SAP experience desirable.
