Looking for a new and exciting challenge? As Senior Director, Manufacturing Technology you will have the opportunity to help define and implement Shutterfly’s next-generation, Manufacturing Production Platform. You will lead a distributed team of architects and developers to build the foundation for our long-term development platform. Key solutions include, but are not limited to, production workflow automation, job routing and management, imposition, device abstraction, reporting & analytics, and ERP. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, passionate about platforms and services, creative, very organized, detail oriented, a proactive communicator, able to prioritize ruthlessly, and pursues goals with a relentless optimism.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Lead/manage the Manufacturing Technology organization consisting of Senior Manager/Director level management staff and highly technical teams of software development and QA engineers across three primary locations – Redwood City (CA), Phoenix (AZ) and Fort Mill (SC)
• Act as the primary external face to the Manufacturing Technology team, directing the coordination and communication with business stakeholders with managers as appropriate
• Provide strong leadership and mentorship for a distributed development team
• Establish and apply best practices, policies, and processes for all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle
• Establish and apply key principles to the delivery of business facing solutions, including quality and timeliness
• Coordinate processes and procedures with Product Management and PMO functions for the successful, on-time delivery of cross-functional projects
• Advocate for Agile software engineering best practices: light-weight, nimble, but delivery and quality focused
• Provide strategic guidance and thinking in the analysis, design and development of software application initiatives to support strategic business programs and enhance revenue growth and scalability initiatives
• Work closely with Systems Engineering, IT Applications, IT Operations, Marketing, Manufacturing Operations, and other key stakeholders to develop an optimal roadmap and execute with excellence resulting in on-time/high quality delivery
• Motivate/foster innovation and drive excellence and continuous improvement
• Assess current and future staffing and development needs based on organizational goals and business strategies
• As a key senior staff member, provide cross functional leadership to drive people, process and product excellence throughout the organization
• Partner with business and operations stakeholders to establish and enact a 3-year Manufacturing Technology strategy in support of business priorities
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other related field
• Minimum of 12 years development and management experience
• Strong technical skills with a background in developing and managing teams involved in building multi-tenant applications, platforms, distributed systems, and micro-services
• Excellent written and verbal communication ranging from addressing the C-level staff to conducting engineering wide all-hands meetings and 1-1 discussions
• Successfully defined and managed multiple cross-functional and cross-organizational projects on time with high quality
• Managed and/or built an organization: of 20 or more developers; 4 or more teams
• Familiarity with compliance requirements and implementations such as SOX, HIPPA , SOC 2, and SAS 70/SSAE 16
• Teacher of management skills such as logical thinking, problem solving, defining right from wrong, communicating intelligently, emotional maturity
• Proven skills in management functions such as controlling, directing, organizing, planning, staffing
• Proven skills in management activities such as satisfying varying entities, dealing with emergencies, purchasing, recruitment, accounting, training, planning, performance management, negotiating, sales, dealing with regulatory officials
