Tax Director
Summary
The Tax Director is a key member of the Accounting Department and will liaison with many departments throughout Green Dot as well as with tax consultants, internal and external auditors and taxing authorities. The Tax Director will conduct day-to-day management of Green Dot’s tax policies and procedures and will be the tax subject matter expert. The Tax Director will focus on the quarterly and annual tax provision process, oversees the tax compliance process, work with external tax professionals to identify and implement tax strategies, and contributes to a variety of strategic projects. Will also be involved in analytical non-tax related projects, supporting a strong and dynamic accounting department.
Responsibilities
• Prepare quarterly and annual tax provision work papers and related financial reporting disclosures
• Develop and implement tax strategies to drive Green Dot’s effective tax rate
• Manage outsourced tax compliance process, including reviewing federal, state and international tax returns and extensions
• Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes
• Establish and maintain the company’s substantial tax reserves for uncertain tax positions
• Research and prepare quarterly and annual technical tax memorandums
• Provide quarterly tax updates to the audit committee
• Research and apply federal and state legislative changes
• Manage nexus studies and apportionment analysis for state tax filings
• Manage federal, state and local tax credit projects
• Prepare and forecast federal and state income tax payments throughout the year
• Manage tax depreciation schedules (federal, state, regular and AMT)
• Oversee examinations by federal and state taxing authorities
• Provide sales & use tax and tax information reporting advisory support
• Provide tax advisory support to other business units (including payroll, human resources and legal)
• Provide support for mergers and acquisition due diligence, integration and planning
• Provide support to Accounting Department on non-tax adhoc projects
• Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other business related field; Advanced degree (MBT, MAcc, JD or LLM) is highly preferred
• Minimum of 13 years of public accounting experience or equivalent experience in industry focused heavily on tax matters
• Deep knowledge of ASC 740 and other related accounting pronouncements and experience in their application
• Strong foundation of tax technical, analytical and compliance skills and experience, including process and internal controls
• Hands-on experience with tax accounting systems such as One Source
• Excellent communication skills with management/executive presence
• Advanced Excel skills
• Excellent research and writing skills
• Must be organized and self-motivated
