Job Purpose:
Responsible for providing leadership to a global quality team of 12 associates in 4 locations, and coordination in all areas of Quality Assurance for BU Communication Systems, including: working with other employees to drive general process and product quality improvement, instilling and deploying preventative (DFSS) methods in all areas, maintaining effective quality feedback and ensuring quick and effective response to major problems that impact customers employees, and/or costs (DMAIC). Define and implement these specific processes and plans in order to achieve world-class quality levels in all products being produced or managed by the BU. Scope of position includes direct responsibility for BU activities, and involvement and influence in all manufacturing sites producing BU Communication Systems products. Maintain Quality & Environmental, Health and Safety coordination for the implementation in all locations of the BU. Organize and coordinate the audit and certification related activities.
Essential Functions:
• Develop, continuously improve, and maintain all processes which impact product quality and reliability. Provide quantitative reports and information, especially related to warranty return rates and costs. Primary focus is in the engineering (PEP Product Engineering Process) and purchasing (TG Trade Goods) aspects of global BU Communication Systems. This effort will be in cooperation with engineering and purchasing, with a focus on prevention.
• Team with manufacturing personnel to establish, maintain, and improve product quality, with a focus on prevention. Drive the effectiveness of the CAR system; review all product corrective actions (internal and supplier) for thorough root cause and preventive action and coach those who need it to achieve consistency.
• Ensure that all TG supplier assessments and contract approvals are properly evaluated and in accordance with ST policies. Ensure all internal new product development projects conform to ST quality requirements. Ensure applicable DFSS tools are used to drive quality improvements.
• Coordinate Six Sigma DMAIC Activities within BU
• Track and monitor key Communication Systems product field WRR and warranty costs. Work with those involved to drive effective and appropriate corrective and preventative actions. Align Warranty Reduction efforts with costs and track savings as a result of reductions. Ensure all related problems are addressed via the corrective action system and properly communicated. Manage product holds or recalls.
• Respond promptly and effectively to product quality related customer complaints.
• Serve as a role model for general quality concepts; consistently use related tools, mentor or train other employees who need those skills improved, provide objective advice to executive management related to organizational and product improvements, use professional etiquette when giving presentations, etc.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree minimum in relevant field, Masters Degree preferred in a relevant field.
• Coursework or other training in Quality tools and methods required.
• Certified Quality Manager preferred.
• Certified Six Sigma Black Belt required. Experience in the application of Six Sigma methods and statistical data analysis.
• Experienced in leading quality and continuous improvement initiatives in an electronics and software development organization, or equivalent blend of education and experience.
• Excellent in communications and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a Team environment.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and work with large / complex cross-functional teams and projects to the successful achievement of stretch goals.
