Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
Develop, establish and implement policies, strategies and relevant initiatives for the Global Nutritional Division and ensure Product Strategy is aligned with business strategy. Responsible for areas of Research & Development, Technical Marketing, Product Surveillance, and Regulatory Affairs of nutritional and general well-being products. Develops team of direct reports and/or international partners responsible for the timely deliverable of products to market. Serves as key liason and influencer on behalf of the Supply Chain division to the Mary Kay sales, marketing and customer operations groups. Directs outreach and support initiatives to external partners to develop R&D collaboration, to create a strong, positive brand image, and to influence regulatory policy. Identifies and mitigates regulatory and business risks. Responsible for sustainable product category growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Research & Development – Defines Global Nutrition R&D Platform, focus areas, and aligns with Senior Leadership. Provides direction to Global Nutrition Research and Development leader and ensures R&D activities are aligned with product strategy. Provides overarching guidance via R&D leader to research activities include ingredient selection, vendor strategy and identification, ingredient standards development, and ingredient efficacy screening. Responsible for facilitating gate review process of Global Nutrition projects and ensures timely delivery of quality product to market. Research goals include the identification of novel, efficacious ingredients and patentable ingredients and technology. Development activities include product formulation, clinical investigation, consumer acceptability research, package acceptability and capability, process development and full pilot scale-up. Further R&D responsibilities include outreach and support initiatives to the medical and academic community to enhance Mary Kay’s understanding of nutrition, well-being and general health.
2. Regulatory Affairs – Provides direction to local Regulatory Affairs department responsible for Nutrition ensuring Company compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations associated with developing, manufacturing and marketing products and communicates status and key updates to Senior Leadership. Regulatory Affairs is responsible for ensuring ingredients, formulas, packaging, claims and manufacturing sites meet all applicable regulations. Regulatory Affairs considers the ramifications of failure to comply with regulations and troubleshoots issues in order to avoid business disruptions. Establishes and monitors systems, policies and procedures for alignment with regulatory compliance requirements. Regulatory Affairs is further responsible for monitoring regulatory proposals that may impact the nutritional and/or general wellness industry, and serves as an information resource in the development of strategies to influence the legislative process. Regulatory Affairs cultivates and maintains working relationships with trade associations, government agents, and professional peers through various avenues in order to remain current on pending legislation, court rulings, and industry plans for compliance.
3. Product Surveillance – Partners closely with Medical Affairs individuals responsible for nutritional product surveillance. Ensures processes and procedures are in place and compliant with all applicable regulations regarding adverse event customer feedback, including the tracking and regulatory reporting of adverse events associated with Mary Kay nutritional products. Medical Affairs is responsible for triage, management, analysis and reporting of potential adverse health complaints. Provides communication, education and direction to customer operations for nutritional and general wellness products. Ensures key issues and updates are communicated directly to Senior Leadership.
4. Technical Marketing – Provides direction to Technical Marketing leader and confirms alignment of Technical Marketing assets with Global Brand and Business Marketing leaders. Technical Marketing is responsible for developing claims language and marketing assets to convey technical information to internal Mary Kay departments and external customers. Partners with Sales & Marketing teams in the development and approval of marketing strategies and assets. Assists Regulatory Affairs with registration documents and reports. Serves as technical writing resource for Global Nutritional Division.
5. Quality Assurance – Partners with Quality leadership responsible for the Global Nutritional Division to ensure SQM systems is in place for Nutrition. Responsible for ensuring products meet the established standards of quality including reliability, usability and performance throughout development.
6. People – Develops team of direct reports and/or international partners responsible for the timely deliverable of products to market. Works within matrix organization and/or indirect reports within international subsidiaries to accomplish the goals of the Global Nutritional Division. Responsible for training, coaching and professional development of nutritional staff.
7. Fiscal – Responsible for planning, reporting and overall administration of the Global Nutritional Division budget, and overall fiscal responsibility that is in alignment with the rules and goals of the Company and in partnership with Region Finance leader.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education Master’s Degree or higher in the sciences / health fields
Experience 10+ years’ experience in a relevant industry
• Must possess a strong working knowledge in the nutritional field in relations to the level of business needs required by the position, department and company.
• Must have experience with Global Project Management leading multifunctional teams and have demonstrated critical collaboration and influencing skills.
• Must be able to provide solutions to a wide range of difficult and complex problems to maintain work flow.
• Must have excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact with various levels of personnel within and outside the Company.
• Must have the ability to perform duties under general direction and independently perform assignments with only general criteria for expected results.
• Must be able to handle fast-paced, multi-tasking, global environment and prioritize effectively.
• Must demonstrate highest ethical standards and trustworthiness.
• Performs direction-related duties that focus on immediate goals and impact long-term goals.
