We are currently hiring for our next Senior Director, Retail Experiential in Boston, MA.
The Senior Director, Retail Experientialis responsible for the development and operation of all consumer facing Brewery, Orchard, Taproom and Retail concept development and management across the Boston Beer Company (BBC) portfolio (excluding A&S). This role reports directly to the BBC Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and has the Director of Brewery and Orchard Experiences (BOE) as a direct report. The role will require both the management of existing facilities and teams in Boston and Walden, as well as the identification and development and execution of new facilities in selected markets. The role is profit responsible, delivering on brand and revenue/profit targets. The role sits on the Marketing Leadership Team and, while not directly responsible for the A&S tap rooms, will need to work closely with A&S to ensure the transfer of best practice and learnings and standardization of operations and reporting.
What You'll Do:
The identification, development and management of new consumer experiences (Taprooms/Orchards)
• Working with Brand and the Leadership Team supervise design, construction, start-up and operations of new tap rooms in Boston and Cincinnati, to budget and target open dates, and target profitability
• Working with Brand and the Leadership Team identify new potential locations for Sam and Angry Orchard taprooms/orchards.
• Run the development, design and on-going hospitality/retail management of all new taprooms and retail experiences ensuring compliance with State and Federal law.
• Ensure that core brand codes and values are represented and clearly presented within all retail experiences.
• Build effective CRM (with our Digital team) and e-commerce (where appropriate) platforms.
• Deliver against revenue and profit targets for all new sites.
Samuel Adams and Angry Orchard Brand Experience at The Boston Brewery and Walden.
• Manage the Brewery/Orchard Director in developing deep connective brand experiences for locals and tourists at the Sameul Adams Boston Brewer and Angry Orchard Walden Cidery via:
◦ Modern yet true to our core brand values interactive tours and taproom experiences
◦ Deliver against agreed revenue and profit targets.
◦ Set the long term strategic vision and growth strategy for the Orchard and Boston Brewery.
◦ Oversee expansion and elevation of tour/brand experiences and events at both sites
◦ Build comprehensive marketing cidery/brewery programs that connects both brands to modern day culture (through strong insights) to drive growth.
◦ Management of facilities including updating look and feel consistent with brand direction
Brewery Coordination
• Support Brewing and Brand Managers: manage communication and coordinate efforts.
• Maintains collaborative relationship with Corporate functions; Brewing, Operations, HR, Legal, Finance, Sales, Marketing, etc.
• To ensure BBC policy is in line with TTB standards for brewery/cidery operations, reporting and product compliance and that BBC procedures are being followed by those at the brewery
• Responsible for new product development at our taproom sites in coordination with Brand and Brewing.
• Responsible for brewery and cidery benchmarking and market visits to develop insights & concepts that support and grow existing brands or create new ones, and to create new opportunities amidst competition.
• Through the appropriate management structure manage GMs of all sites including supplier and vendor relationships, brand health, building facilities, security, Awards program and budgets.
• Work collaboratively with functional leaders to drive efficiencies across the organization
What We're Looking For:
• 15+ years in brand related experience/retail/hospitality, from location identification and development, through to on-going management.
• Strong brand and branding experience in design codes and activation.
• Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead performance improvement initiatives in fast paced environments
• Proven ability to prioritize, make knowledgeable, quick decisions in a fast-paced environment. Proven experience managing salaried and hourly staff.
• Competence in of Microsoft Excel, MS Word and MS Access required. Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, Process Improvement and Process Control.
• Experience working closely with brand and national sales force.
• Desired knowledge of brew house and cellar operations.
• Knowledge and a passion for the beverage alcohol category.
• Responsible for managing teams at both sites including full-time, part-time, temp employees and co-ops
• Indirect management of project teams and working cross functionally to accomplish goals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Must be able to operate a forklift.
• Must be able to lift 35 lbs
• Must be able to travel 30-50% of time to Walden, NY, Cincinnati, and future retail/consumer experiential locations.
• May require evening and weekends.
