The Director – External Reporting, in conjunction with the VP – External Reporting, is responsible for developing and managing all SEC filings (including 10K's, 10Q's, 8K’s, debt and equity filings, etc.). This person ensures that all accounting and disclosures included in SEC filings are appropriate to meet SEC & FASB disclosure requirements. The Director – External Reporting is responsible for assessing and monitoring financial reporting and disclosure controls. The Director – External Reporting will work with our independent accountants in the audit of the company’s annual report on Form 10-K and preparation and review of quarterly financial statements on Form 10-Q. In addition, this person will be responsible for ensuring appropriate accounting for certain technically complex areas (i.e. impairment, stock based compensation, etc).
Key responsibilities include:
• Manage the preparation of the Form 10-Ks, 10-Qs and other SEC filings.
• Support the quarterly earnings release process.
• Oversee all technical accounting matters, including M&A accounting, impairment and stock based compensation.
• Monitor GAAP and SEC developments and lead the adoption of new accounting and disclosure rules. Work closely with external auditors.
• Ensure other compliance filings are completed (statutory audits, conflict minerals, etc)
• Provide accounting and policy counsel on a global basis with respect to the company’s significant, unusual and complex transactions and events in a variety of areas.
• Establish and maintain financial reporting policies and procedures.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiencies and internal controls.
• Provide education and training to management on important accounting issues.
• Lead the implementation of new accounting pronouncements.
• Provide formal and informal GAAP and policies training to Finance employees globally
• The position will also lead other significant projects, which vary based on business transactions and priorities.
• Recruit, develop and retain talent.
• Lead the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their team. Evaluate the quality of work, conduct performance appraisals, and counsel employees. Address complaints and resolves concerns.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) from an accredited four-year college or university in related profession/field.
• Master’s Degree or Advanced Education preferred.
• CPA License.
• 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm and/or SEC reporting experience for a large global company.
• Experience in a complex global organization.
• Experience in consumer product/retail sector organization preferred.
• Strong technical accounting and research skills.
• Extensive knowledge of SEC reporting and US GAAP.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality against deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability working in a matrix organization, building strong partnerships, and accessing available resources.
• Track record of effectively leading multiple projects and balancing competing priorities.
• Demonstrated experience developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong results orientation and work ethic. Must be tenacious, with the emotional intelligence to know when to push harder and when to look for alternative approaches.
• Unsurpassed ability to analyze and critique complex accounting issues and impacts, condensing them into recommendations and actions for the company.
• Demonstrated strategic thinking and leadership experience with an emphasis on relationship management with all levels within an organization of comparable size and structure.
• Demonstrated experience leading multi-discipline, high-performance work teams/groups and managing resources to meet organizational goals across multiple projects.
• Superior oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communications skills.
• Ability to effectively exercise tact, discretion, judgment and diplomacy when interacting and/or negotiating with internal and external customers, and senior management, and ability to communicate with others in challenging situations using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to manage/reduce tension or conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards.
• Ability to act as a managerial adviser on professional and technical issues with a view towards reaching strategic decisions; ability to manage conflicting demands for resources through negotiation.
• Ability to perform in a “hands-on” environment that demands a consultative approach and solutions that span multiple environments in a business area.
• Self-starter, willingness to accept challenges, will take the lead and execute.
• Ability and willingness to accept responsibility, willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions, including the persistence and willingness to take calculated risk, and to market and implement change within the department.
