SCOPE OF POSITION:
The successful Operations Manager will actively drive improvement in manufacturing efficiency and team performance. The successful candidate for this role must have strong propensity for action and principle centered leadership. The Operations Manager is a senior leader on the Plant Manager staff.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
◦ Develop and execute manufacturing plan and production schedule for up to 6 lines that maximizes manufacturing performance.
◦ Perform regular analysis as a means for identifying variances, highlighting opportunities, and developing effective action plans.
◦ Facilitate gap closure meetings and actions to ensure the management team produces lasting results.
◦ Use fact-based data to prioritize improvement opportunities.
◦ Identify major issues and determine most effective strategy for resolution.
◦ Develop, implement, and monitor plans around business performance metrics.
◦ Present productivity suggestions that support three (3) year capital plan dedicated to business growth initiatives and cost savings.
◦ Develop and execute annual operating plan.
◦ Lead the Productivity Improvement Process to achieve annual cost savings goals.
◦ Identify, provide or deliver training on lean manufacturing techniques, quality, operations, and safety to all levels of the organization.
◦ Facilitate team continuous improvement events comprised of both hourly and management employees.
◦ Coordinate and implement sanitation process to ensure all quality, sanitation and GMP practices are followed.
◦ Drive improvement in the following metrics:
# OEE
# Cases per Man Hour
# Overtime
# Ingredient Yield
# Packaging Yield
# First Pass Yield
# Materials Spend
# MRO Spend
# TRIR, DART, LTA Finance:
◦ Manage plant expenditures, ensuring the plant stays within financial restraints.
◦ Ensure all reports are accurate and understand corporate business and financial goals.
◦ Drive cost containment initiatives and reductions.
◦ Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes and meetings, as appropriate.
◦ Environmental, Health & Safety:
◦ Ensure effective and measurable safety and environmental programs.
◦ Ensure facility compliance with the regulations of all Federal, State, and local agencies.
◦ Participate in audits and address all observations.
◦ Ensure accomplishment of safety targets and initiatives as identified by senior leaders.
◦ Maintain/exceed environmental goals – drive measurable improvement along the path to sustainability.
◦ Quality, Customer Satisfaction and Brand Development:
◦ Fully implement and maintain SQF 2000 Certified System requirements, including training verification, within area of responsibility.
• Partner with Research & Development and Marketing to identify ways in which to add brand value.
• Ensure manufacturing plans achieve service targets aligned with inventory goals in support of Sales and Operations Planning.
• Ensure regulatory compliance.
• Champion all quality standards on the manufacturing floor.
• Employee Relations, Individual and Team Development:
• Promote an environment conducive to teams, teamwork, and accountability.
• Foster a firm, fair and positive employee relations program in accordance with plant and corporate policy - truth, candor and ownership.
• Administer performance management processes.
• Identify critical areas for training and development.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of three (3) years of Process Engineering or Team Manager experience, or the equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment, required
• Supervisory experience in a food manufacturing environment, familiarity with SQF 2000 System preferred
• Experience leading continuous improvement processes in a manufacturing environment
• Experience driving business results in the areas of safety, quality, service and cost
• Experience working with a diverse group of people
• Act independently and proactively to influence others and implement change
• Ability to work with and influence all levels of the organization
• The ability to apply strong analytical concepts and innovative approaches to complex business problems
• Intrinsically motivated to achieve business results; has the ability to motivate others.
• Ability to teach and coach employees at all levels in the use of lean tools, presenting complex information in a clear and concise manner
• High personal standards of success; leads by example
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Strong knowledge of practical lean manufacturing principles and total production reliability methods
• Excellent project management skills
• Microsoft Office skills such as PowerPoint, Project Manager, Excel and Word and various other business related applications.
• AutoCAD Lite – ability to read and redline drawings.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree required. Engineering disciplines preferred
• Master’s in Business Administration, or equivalent a plus
TRAVEL:
• Travel is required 15% of the time
