The Director of Payroll will oversee all activities of the Payroll Department. This position will ensure that all processing is completed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner, including payments to employees, responses to internal and external inquiries, and all other payroll transaction processing for the Ashley Companies. This position will ensure all payroll processes and procedures are documented and followed, identify and manage departmental improvement initiatives and process the semi-monthly salary payrolls and related reporting.
Essential Functions:
• Manage the payroll process to ensure accurate and timely completion of all Ashley Companies’ weekly payrolls.
• Oversee research and resolution of payroll issues as they occur. When necessary, coordinate collaboration with IT to resolve payroll system issues and participate in finance system updates. Notify Assistant Controller of any significant payroll situations as soon as they occur.
• Supervise staff of off-site payroll functions and manage coordination and completion of their functions. Monitor to ensure consistencies across all locations and companies payroll processes.
• Identify & manage departmental improvement initiatives, such as increased process automation, additional internal controls, and thorough documentation of processes.
• Review quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting and monthly account reconciliations. Coordinate with 3rd party tax filing service to ensure proper reporting for total hourly and salary returns.
• Process the semi-monthly salary payroll and related reporting timely and accurately and coordinate with 3rd party provider as necessary.
• Manage employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring and administering performance reviews. Recommend, plan and/or implement employee training and skill development activities.
• Make employment decisions and/or recommendations such as hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, terminations and pay adjustments. Track employee time-keeping and absenteeism.
• Oversee and conduct team/department meetings to ensure employees are educated on departmental issues and aware of the company’s goals and objectives.
• Support and ensure Ashley Furniture’s policies and procedures are followed.
• Manage and improve departmental performance measures through use and interpretation of Continuous Improvement tools. Improve working conditions and processes (safety, quality, productivity and cost) including supporting and directing employee to participate in improvement programs.
• Manage resources to optimize equipment, facilities, employees, methods and materials.
Job Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience, Required
Experience:
• 8 years of payroll and general accounting, Required
• Supervisory/Management experience
Licenses or Certifications:
• Certified Payroll Professional or ability to obtain within 1 year, Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Payroll taxes and other deductions
• Strong payroll systems knowledge
