Job Summary
The production supervisor is instrumental in making sure that production runs as smoothly as possible. He/she must be able to make quick and accurate decisions while handling several issues simultaneously.
Essential Job Duties
• Ensure that all employees have a safe working environment and follow safety guidelines and procedures
• Manage and provide guidance to employees
• Maintain efficient production runs
• Troubleshoot problems with equipment
• Schedule maintenance work
• Perform administrative tasks, including using a computer for Kronos timekeeping software – approving and editing hourly employees time and attendance, creating production reports and presentations
• Operate the shift maintaining good manufacturing practices (sanitation/food safety)
• Continuous improvement: Implements procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment and operations
• Communicate appropriately with employees and other managers
• May perform other duties as required.
Scope of Responsibility
After checking the shift work schedule and making sure that the shift is staffed appropriately, the production supervisor is responsible for checking all finished product to evaluate the quality and quantity for each production line. The production supervisor is responsible for disciplinary actions and coaching/counseling employees while adhering to company policies and procedures including written documentation. The production supervisor must maintain a clean work area. This includes scheduled cleaning in addition to pre-op cleaning between production runs of allergen and non-allergen products. All cleaning must be checked and documented – this is a critical part of food safety.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position is responsible for supervising production workers on a line for a shift. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Lance policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Reading, writing, simple arithmetic, weighing and/or measuring, analyzing data or report information, drawing basic conclusions from written or computer generated materials, implementing recommendations by coordinating persons and/or other resources, developing plans, procedures, and goals; directing activities of others to accomplish goals, and having input on evaluating performance of others.
Requires good communication skills, basic computer skills and good interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience
HS diploma preferred, bilingual a plus, 3-5 years supervisory experience in manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
