The Director of Import Quality Operations is responsible for all areas of engineering and quality management for overseas produced finished goods. This position will oversee the development of processes, procedures, testing, etc. to ensure that products meet company and consumer expectations.
The Director of Import Quality Operations is responsible for all engineering and quality issues related to import finished goods. In addition, this position is responsible for setting standards, testing, product review, product improvements, setting goals and giving direction to the international quality department.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Align the International Quality and Engineering staff within the system of work and establish clear definitions of roles and responsibilities within staff. Upon this aligned base of communication systems, corrective action systems, and support, establish a working set of performance evaluation criteria to provide visibility to executive leadership relative to the opportunities within quality improvement for the international vendor base.
• Establish and maintain a visible and connected series of quality systems and processes such as Concept Launch System, Dominator, Quality Intelligence System (QIS), which provide the foundation of the operational-level quality practices within the organization. This includes establishing systems and ensuring engagement and implementation across all global teams.
• Establish a clear directory of launch items and review points, ensure that there is organizational wide visibility to the identified issues and systematically drive launch issues to closure within a collective team supporting the operations.
• Ensure execution by directing new product launch go’s through market, pre-production review (PPR), Asia first-shipment release (AFSR), first-shipment review (FSR) and the remaining life-cycle of product.
• Communicate daily with internal and external customers as well as global teams within the product lifecycle to resolve ongoing engineering and quality concerns.
• Facilitate Voice of Customer (VOC) events within the Ashley customer base. Establish a regular series of events where members of the manufacturing operations can effectively experience the impact of out-of- box quality conditions within the retail operations. Establish an effective channel of communication flow between the issues which directly affect a customer and the corrective action system which corrects the issue.
• Regularly review all quality data points, such as systems, reports and submitted photos, to provide direction to overseas offices for continuous improvement.
• Lead Quality Intelligence System projects, managed by both the Ashley and Vendors, to resolve current issues to completion by investigating, communicating, resolving and reporting back on quality concerns from sales, customer relations, customers, credit, overseas offices and vendors. Establish a clear priority of projects resulting in high value added results for the business.
• Travel to review vendors’ facilities, processes and product quality; train overseas quality teams on new processes and procedures dealing with engineering, quality, software, testing and construction.
• Direct and oversee on hold and re-work projects for import finished goods; ensure that everyone involved is notified and that the projects are completed in a timely manner.
• Make employment decisions and/or recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, pay adjustments, etc.
• Coordinate and manage the work of employees by directing members of the team to meet the area’s goals. Audit regularly to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to.
• Manage employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring and administering performance reviews. Recommend, plan and/or implement employee training and skill development activities.
• Audit, maintain and ensure employee time-keeping and absentee records are accurate.
• Communicate company and departmental issues and goals and facilitate employee growth and development through weekly team meetings, regular individual employee meetings, coaching, training, and company-offered learning opportunities.
• Manage resources to optimize equipment, facilities, employees, methods and materials.
Job Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology or related field or equivalent work experience, Required
Experience:
• 10 years’ experience in manufacturing, engineering or related area, Required
• Experience managing diverse teams that interact extensively with other departments
• Quality and Continuous Improvement experience strongly preferred with a strong understanding of process expertise, continuous process improvement and quality assurance methodology and tools
