The Role
The Director will have ownership and accountability for the DevOps and Infrastructure teams, and will provide services to the entire Product Organization (600+ engineers). The Director should have a passion for DevOps and will drive world class engineering infrastructure, tools, processes, and efficiencies across the organization and engineering labs. This role will provide daily management and leadership for 20+ team members, and reports directly to the VP of Engineering Infrastructure and Operations. This person will drive progress within the Product organization by focusing on common tools, infrastructure and process improvements.
The candidate will balance a mix of strategy, planning, communication and execution responsibilities in support of the organization. They will possess a unique blend of business insight, IT operations experience, IT application deployment, development operations, and infrastructure big-picture thinking. An ideal candidate has the ability to influence and collaborate with a large number of constituents within Hitachi, as well as be persuasive, diplomatic, and have proven communication skills. This role requires proven leadership experience, executive presence, and outstanding cross-group collaboration.
Primary Responsibilities:
This individual will:
• Own the execution and implementation of key DevOps and Infrastructure initiatives
• Collaborate with Engineering leaders to ensure critical engineering needs are being met on a timely basis
• Collaborate with Executive Management to ensure key DevOps and Infrastructure initiatives are continually refined, serving the needs of the engineering teams
• Manage, lead and drive best practices across the DevOps and Infrastructure groups
• Manage, lead and drive best practices across all engineering labs and networks
• Provide excellent customer service to our Engineering teams
• Analyze operations to identify key metrics and opportunities for effective execution by the organization; drive associated initiatives to improve performance and exceed business objectives
• Engage with finance partners to manage to budget and plan, and knows how apply resources to get the best returns
• Partner with HR Business Partner to plan and drive a performance management process to create a high-performance team
Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years’ experience in leadership roles in software/hardware industry, agile development methodologies
• Understand the differing requirements of an IT corporate network and an engineering network
• Detailed knowledge of CI/CD best practices and implementation across diverse engineering teams
• Detailed knowledge managing connectivity across geographically disperse engineering labs (internal and co-lo)
• Significant project management and leadership experience in the development of commercially successful systems and networks
• Ability to prioritize and align with engineering teams needs
• Ability to manage a geographically diverse workforce
• Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks and track to a schedule
• Excellent communication, ability to write clear and concise documentation
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively navigate across many departments
• Ability to hold people accountable for achieving their goals
• Leads by example, creating a sense of energy, ownership, and personal commitment
• Possesses strong analytical skills and able to process information quickly and make decisions in a timely manner.
• Experience working with executives to accomplish organizational priorities and guide VP’s and leadership teams through alternative decisions.
• Strong sense of self and can relate well to other; learns quickly and can adapt to changes in time-frames, people and situations with ease; remains calm under pressure
• Required domestic travel 40%
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar background
