Job Summary
Leader of Trade Performance team/capability, focused on the evaluation and improvement of trade spending effectiveness and efficiency across brands and customers. Manages a team responsible for executing trade promotion analysis and building connection points to the ongoing and annual promotional planning processes to drive profit improvement. Strategic leader of trade return on investement (ROI) and the visionary for the future of the organizational capability, leads the development of innovative analytical methods, tools and human capital. Scope of the role includes evaluating and optimizing all everyday pricing (EDLP) and merchandising-driven trade spending. Works closely with and influences cross-functional partners to include Brand Marketing, Headquarters and Field Sales. Objectives include; total plan ROI and gross profit dollar improvement and capability/people development metrics.
Position Responsibilities
• Leader of Trade ROI:
◦ Establishes strong linkages across the Brand, Sales and Finance organization to drive organizational awareness of ROI performance, optimization levers and opportunities for profit improvement
◦ Inform / influence organizational leadership on plan / strategy changes through ROI improvement and their subsequent financial impacts
◦ Empower the organization with tools, processes, analytics and recommendations to better inform trade plans / strategies
◦ Establishes ROI and trade-driven profit improvement targets as input into annual planning process
• Deliver Foundational Trade Analytics:
◦ Leads the development of EDLP and merchandising post-promotional event level ROI and event level performance versus plan, leveraging advanced analytical tools, integrating information from SAP TPM and syndicated data sources.
◦ Interacts with Headquarters Sales to help Field Sales teams understand findings and implement recommendations
◦ Identifies potential new promotion strategies and tactics by evaluating marketplace and competitive changes
◦ Ensures organization visibility to trade performance scorecard
• Build The Future of Trade Optimization:
◦ Charts the course for the evolution of the Trade Performance capability for Conagra Brands
◦ Assesses and determines the analytical methodologies and tools needed to glean actionable insights to optimize trade investment and profit delivery
◦ Stays abreast of the latest techniques in analysis and tools. Seeks to integrate them within existing organizational capability where applicable
◦ Partners and builds strong connections with the IT function to maintain and expand capabilities of advanced analytical tools
◦ Recruits, hires and develops a team with collective expertise to manage all strategic, operational, tactical, and administrative elements of trade pptimization within a highly collaborative environment
◦ Understands and stays abreast of varied and changing channel and retailer go-to market strategies to ensure internal trade strategies align
◦ Seeks out and incorporates leading trade optimization practices and capabilities from inside and outside food and consumer packed goods industries
◦ Collaborates with the leader of Revenue Management to set the deliverables and evolution of the function
Position Qualifications
• Undergraduate business degree; MBA also a plus
• 8-10 years of business experience, including people management; 5+ years of CPG experience is strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of cross-channel customer base, ideally with experience in Pricing Strategy, Sales Strategy, or implementation and management of customer investment strategy
• Strong financial acumen, including experience with ROI analysis
• Strong business, financial & analytical acumen to develop both short and long-term strategies that deliver top and bottom line results
• Proven ability to synthesize syndicated and/or financial data to analyze pricing and promotional strategies
• Demonstrate ability to build cross-functional relationships and influence individuals at higher levels within the organization to impact behaviors and outcomes
• Demonstrate a track record of thinking in new and imaginative ways, challenging the status quo, driving continuous improvement, and effectively managing change
• Proven success dealing with time-sensitive ambiguous issues in a dynamics business environment, driving towards resolution and progress with varying amounts and quality of information
• Direct supervisory experience of employees and leading cross-functional teams
