Overall Job Summary
The Regional Sales Director is responsible for directing and coordinating the sales activities of an assigned territory with the goal of maximizing profits and expand market presence to increase sales growth. This role possesses a proven ability and understanding of executing sales techniques and processes, resulting in achieving or surpassing business targets. The Regional Sales Director creates business-to-business relationships and solution-based programs, managing a distinct territory to achieve maximum account coverage.
Job Responsibilities
• Plans and directs sales and service programs to promote new markets, improve competitive position in the area, and provide fast and efficient customer service.
• Develops strategies to achieve organizational goals; analyzes market and competition, identifies external threats and opportunities, and adapts strategy to changing conditions.
• Achieves assigned sales targets as determined by the company.
• Controls sales expense budgets to meet company objectives. Develops and implements cost saving measures.
• Confers with potential customers to ascertain merchandising, product and service needs. Advises customers on types of merchandise and product to purchase, considering such factors as costs, space availability and customer needs.
• Continuously identifies “target” accounts and directs team in developing plans of action to gain these accounts.
• Directs and coordinates sales activities and interfaces with personnel engaged in service and shipping operations.
• Reviews market analysis to determine customer needs, price lists and discount rates.
• Delivers sales presentations to key clients in coordination with sales representatives.
• Directs channel development activity and coordinates sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas and goals.
• Directs product simplification and standardization to eliminate unprofitable lines.
• Prepares forecasting and budget reports in addition to territory reviews. Analyzes sales & expense reports; uses data for strategic planning.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished. Mentors, coaches, trains and develops team.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Sales or related field
• Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred
• 8+ years progressive sales management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5+ years in a leadership role (direct or indirect)
• Prior managerial/supervisory experience
• Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
• High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook, Salesforce.com & Internet applications
• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
• Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
