The Role
Hitachi Vantara’s Office of COO is based on a newly designed operating model, recently introduced to the organization by the COO. The office of the COO is responsible for driving key transformation activities as well as the Management Engine which was designed to more effectively and efficiently align functional priorities to a corporate strategy and execute those priorities in an agile fashion through frequent reporting of KPIs to drive action through insight.
This role leads the Program Management Office (PMO) and Enterprise Investment Management (EIM) for the COO office. This role and the team will support the multi-year business transformation underway at Hitachi Vantara.
PMO - The leader will be responsible for owning and driving all program management needs and activities for the COO office with vision to expand to cover the whole enterprise program management needs in the future. He/She will be responsible for establishing a program management group including consistent methodology, industry best practices and processes/systems to enable it. He/She will work closely with external consulting thought partners to keep up the knowledge on latest program management trends, relevant certifications and governance structures. The ability to both coordinate timelines, contingencies and dependencies of work plans as well as communicate progress and drive decision-making at an executive level is a must.
EIM - Align strategy, justification and prioritization of material investment requests with a 6-12 month horizon to meet company transformational and financial goals. He/She will review the business cases for funding requests prepared by cross-functional teams. He/she will run Executive Level meetings that include approval of new requests, highlight issues and challenges of in-flight programs and provide financial and operational results of completed projects.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities (PMO)
• Act as the leader for Hitachi Vantara’s COO Program Management Office (PMO) and EIM and a team of 5-7 resources for the same
• Own and drive the governance and cadence to ensure program management backlog is managed adequately and resources are appropriately applied to projects to maximize Value to Effort (VE) ratio for COO office
• Define and drive the strategy for program management tools, training, methodologies across Hitachi Vantara. Work with functional executives to gain alignment on strategy and execution
• Conduct regular updates to VP, Transformation and Enterprise Operations and Chief Operating Officer
• Be closely aligned to the broader change management efforts for the transformation and ensure key priorities from the COO office are incorporated appropriately (e.g. Executive agenda)
• Managing a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities
• Producing accurate and timely reporting of program/project status throughout its life cycle
• Analyzing project risks
Primary Responsibilities (EIM)
• Oversees demand intake, demand discovery, and demand prioritization processes. Ensure demand pipeline is up-to-date
• Anticipates risks and challenges for large, complex projects going through the approval process
Responsible for reinforcing discipline within enterprise decision making
• Member of the Operating Committee representing enterprise for investment decisions for demand less than $500K
• Runs Executive level investment decision meetings for demand greater than $500K
• Summarizes reports up to Executive Committee monthly on total investments
Qualifications
• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience
• Experience in managing programs/projects and working cross functionally
• Experience working cross-functionally and ability to manage multiple takeholders daily
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically about corporate-level priorities and manage ideation through execution of priorities across an organization
• Experience working with senior level executives and preparing content and messaging for executive-level communication
• Strong communication and organizational skills and a “get it done” attitude
• Forthright and transparent with Executive Management
• Empowered to challenge cross-functional teams and be a voice of objectivity
• Has business acumen to oversee business case develop
