Weber Shandwick is currently seeking an Account Director to join our growing San Francisco team of conversation-starters, strategists, storytellers, PhD-level scientists, writers, creatives and builders.
We’re looking for a strong team member and collaborator whose foundation is in health policy, corporate communication, reputation management and healthcare systems. The ideal candidate is a professional counselor who can provide strategic guidance to clients on an ongoing basis, as well as anticipate “what’s next.” The ability to adapt to a range of corporate cultures easily will help a candidate succeed in this role, critical thinking skills are a must. This Account Director will be responsible for leading a large-scale client relationship, working closely with a number of teams internally and externally. The ideal candidate has experience leading integrated communications work for clients and is resourceful, curious and excited to experiment and explore new ideas.
Position Profile:
An Account Director plays a critical role in determining the future and long-term success of Weber Shandwick. They’re responsible for managing senior level client relationships and have regular exposure to client senior management. Account Directors are also accountable for collaborating between disciplines within the Weber Shandwick organization and supporting new business development efforts.
Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and passion for a client's business, objectives, industry, target audiences and relevant media/influencers
• Drive day-to-day client relations and serve as one of the primary client counselors.
• Develop and maintain strong and consistent interpersonal relationships with senior clients.
• Consult on and develop integrated strategic programs based on public relations/media relations, event activations, content marketing, social media strategy, etc.
• Develop, mentor and lead cross-functional teams; directly supervise staff and manage performance reviews.
• Develop long-term plans and programs, including strategy and recommendations; partner with senior management and other functional teams as appropriate to develop strategic and creative approach
• Counsel team members relative to program activation, including research, content development, media pitching, reporting and account management
• Actively cultivate client relationships by heading and initiating review meetings, etc.
• Ability to provide strategic counsel to clients with confidence and poise
• Project management including, but not limited to, campaign execution, budgeting and team bandwidth
• Manage/mentor/oversee the work of junior team members in San Francisco, and coordinate with NA teams
• Manage accounts to assure profitability goals are on target
• Review monthly staffing and OOPs expenditures for each project within account portfolio
• Proactive about developing ideas for media outreach and pitch efforts
• Effectively collaborate with various offices, disciplines and work streams
• Possess and foster excellent presentation and writing skills
• Address any issues, troubleshoot problems and provide strategic counsel to team
• Motivate team members by promptly reviewing work and providing constructive feedback in real time
• Effectively liaise between staff and upper management
• Drive business results through proactive actions with clients and colleagues
• Maintain solid understanding of “big picture” view of client programs and relationship: maintain awareness of future client events and activities and how they impact agency
• Identify new organic growth opportunities for the short to medium term, based on insights into the company, client, industry and economy
• Contribute to new business growth for the agency
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Minimum of 8 years related professional experience
• Experience in health policy and health systems
• Extensive corporate communication programming experience
